Conversation.
As Pastor Steve shared this past Sunday, when we have troubles we are invited to seek God for help, and when are filled with joy we are invited to give God praise. These are two different aspects of this thing we call prayer. We often tend to have questions about prayer: What is the purpose of prayer? How is prayer supposed to work? Does prayer actually change things? Or, does prayer simply change us? Lots and lots of questions!
 
Prayer is connection.
 
First off, it is important to understand that prayer is meant to be a place of genuine connection with God. This is a God who wants us to call out to Him, and to connect with Him. He draws near to us as we draw near to Him. He is our loving Father who desires a relationship with each one of us.
 
God answers prayer.
 
We are invited to pray to our Father in Heaven, in both good times and in bad, because He is a God who hears us and who responds. He is a God who brings comfort to the broken-hearted and who is able to heal the sick. This is a God who cares deeply about our needs.
 
Prayer is conversation.
 
It is also important to see that prayer is not simply a time for us to talk to God, but that it is also a time for us to hear from God. Prayer is a conversation that goes in both ways. But there is obviously a degree of mystery to this, as the way that God communicates with us not currently face-to-face, but through the guidance and nudges of His Spirit within us.
 
Prayer is relationship.
 
In the end, prayer is not about a religious routine, or finding the right formula to get God to "pay off". Prayer is about having a relationship with God. Prayer is conversation. Prayer is about a genuine connection, that requires our participation. 
And, at times, it is also about persevering, trusting that God is good, and that God is wise.
 
So, may we all continue to press in to the practice of prayer, not as a religious exercise, but as an expression of our genuine relationship with our loving Father.
 
May we walk in the Image of God this week!

Outdoor Service - Sunday, August 8th
On Sunday, August 8th, instead of our regular Sunday Morning Service, Eaglebrook will be having an Outdoor Worship Service at Torpy Park in downtown Minocqua. The Outdoor Worship Service will be followed by a Baptism and Potluck.

"The Lord bless you and keep you... make His face shine upon you... and be gracious to you... the Lord turn His face towards you, and give you peace. A men!"

I don't know about you, but I've been singing and humming that song every since Sunday's service. It continues to bless my heart and my soul, and I pray that it has done the same for you.

As we come to next Sunday, we will be finishing our series in James, with a message called "Not the end (of your story)." God is still writing it!
