RESEARCH, PUBLICATIONS & PRESENTATIONS

Associate Professor Teri Finneman gave a lecture about her grant project, Revenue and Readership: Rescuing and Reviving Rural Journalism, to the Arkansas Press Association.

Professor Hyunjin Seo, Assistant Professor Yuchen Liu (j’21, Cleveland State University), Assistant Professor Muhammad Ittefaq (j’22, James Madison University), doctoral student Fatemeh Shayesteh, Assistant Professor Ursula Kamanga (j’22, University of Nevada-Las Vegas), and doctoral student Annalise Baines are co-authors of “International Migrants and COVID-19 Vaccinations: Social Media, Motivated Information Management & Vaccination Willingness," which has been accepted for publication in Digital Health. This study is based on a mixed-method approach of combining a survey and interviews with international migrants on their social media use and COVID-19 vaccination.

Professor Yvonnes Chen's co-first-author article has been accepted by the American Journal of Public Health. The article is funded by NIH's RADx-UP project and documents the development and evaluation of a multilingual, multimedia communication campaign co-created with trusted community leaders with the goal of increasing COVID-19 testing and vaccination. Her co-authors included Mariana Ramirez (Director of JUNTOS Center for Advancing Latino Health at KU Medical Center), Dr. Crystal Lumpkins (Associate Professor at the University of Utah), Broderick Crawford (NBC Community Development Corporation in Kansas City, Kansas), Dr. K. Allen Greiner (Nason Family Endowed Professor, Department of Family Medicine and Community Health, KU Medical Center) and Dr. Edward Ellerbeck (Professor, Department of Population Health and Internal Medicine, KU Medical Center).

Steve Rottinghaus, career and outreach coordinator, served on the planning committee for the Kansas Association of Colleges and Employers Summer Drive-In on July 20 in Salina. He also presented at the conference on ways to promote career services activities to students.

Grad Path is a new podcast produced at the School of Journalism & Mass Communications. Every two weeks, two different graduate students or faculty members of the J-School will join host Fernanda Silva, J-School master’s student. The goal is to help and guide graduate students from all over the world before, during and after their program. How do you apply for a graduate program? How can you be productive in research while working and studying? How do you decide on the theme for theses and projects? How can you participate in conferences? These are some of the questions that will be covered. Listen to the podcast.
