A DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT by Donna Day
“You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble
and surround me with songs of deliverance.” Psalm 32:7
I love this verse knowing God is the One we can run to when life gets hard. He is my shelter in times of trouble. Hi, my name is Donna and I am a member of PGCC. I am also a member of PGCC’s Emergency Response Team. When I moved to Sun City Roseville my next door neighbor, Wanda Deaton, came over and invited me to go to church with her. During our conversation we discovered we were both Registered Nurses, thus the reason I am on the Emergency Response Team.
I was very active and enjoying life to the fullest in Sun City. Then one day last year I woke up and looked into the mirror to see this very, very, very yellow person. Being a nurse, I knew immediately I was in trouble. I contacted my doctor and he told me to go to the emergency room immediately. After a lab test, an MRI and a CT scan I received the dreaded diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
I know many of you have also received a diagnosis that is fearful.
I then remembered God’s words in John 3:16. “For God so loved the world he gave his only Son, that who so ever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life”.
I reminded myself that God had not forgotten or forsaken me. He is with me and I prayed for help to freely share his love with all the people in my life. Psalm 91:5 says, “You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day.” These words of God allowed me to survive the past year of cancer and the pandemic. I know God loves me and will protect me.
The months of chemotherapy, followed by an eight-hour surgery, followed up with more chemotherapy (I call it chemo poison) were the most challenging of my life. But God’s word again gave me strength.
“Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge.” Psalm 91:3
I want to give a special thanks to the pastors for reaching out to me by phone and praying for me. Thanks to the ERT and their leader Betty Grant. Also, to PGCC’s prayer team. I’m thankful I am still on the prayer list. Most of all I give thanks to God for being with me day and night and everyone’s prayers. Remember God does answer prayer.
My last test came back cancer free. God’s truths assure me that I am not alone no matter the problems I face in life. THANK YOU GOD!
