From Pastor Goetz

The Perfect Pastor

A church mother here at Campion said something profound this last week to Melanie – “I’m glad I’m not perfect; it gives God and His grace an opportunity to be demonstrated to my children.”  Well said, mom.

An update on the pastoral search. The search committee has officially voted (not really) that we will not be looking for a perfect pastor. We want someone in whose life will be demonstrated the grace of God.

Our pastoral search committee, working with the conference liaison, has formed a short list to whom they are extending an invitation to meet on Zoom. That should be completed by early March, and an invitation will be extended to one of the candidates to travel here with their family to meet with the search committee, and as opportunity allows, the church board.

Thank you for your prayers as we follow God’s leading to the most perfect imperfect pastor to join our ministry leaders and pastors at Campion.

Coming Sermon Series

We are a Missionary Band

March 27-May 8, 2021

It took a tragedy to mobilize the first century Christians as missionaries; from those ashes came beauty (Isaiah 6:1) and the world was turned upside down (Acts 17:6).

Ever since then the heartbeat of Christianity is that the hope of now and hope of forever, as found in Jesus, is the only hope for every nation, language, and race. So Christians have risked it all to go. From every corner to every corner they have gone.

Some of the most gripping and mobilizing stories ever told have been of missionaries retelling the greatest story that could be told. And in hearing their stories we just might find our hearts beginning to beat for the Crucified Christ and for the world for which He died.

Jones' Zoom Bible Study
Phil and JoAnne began leading small group Bible studies in 1982 when he was the pastor in Redlands, California. Those Home Bible Fellowships originally started with 38 groups in Redlands. They studied the Bible book by book, and Phil would preach on the current chapter each Sabbath.
This practice is continuing and currently Jones’ Grow Group is studying 2 Timothy and Titus and is nearing the end of the New Testament. They meet every Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm for one hour. They use as a guide the Navigator’s verse by verse study guides called “Life Changes.”
Presently the group stretches from California to Colorado, but it is open to anyone joining at any time. This year it began in mid-January and will pause in mid-June until the new school year in September.

New Leaders Change Culture of Evangelism at Campion
By Nestor Soriano
The church board made a decision this past January that changed the culture of evangelism at Campion.

Two young men were hired to work as Bible workers: Eddie Camacho and Andre Tapia. When asked why they chose to be Bible workers at Campion, Eddie said, “Towards the end of my senior year at Campion, we had to transition to online classes which gave me a lot of free time that I chose to spend studying the Bible. After a couple weeks I felt a strong call to go into ministry. So I attended the Eden Valley Medical Missionary Evangelism Program this past fall and eventually God led me to work as Bible worker for Campion right after.” Andre commented, "Bible work has been a ministry that brought my mom and family to Jesus before I was even born. The longer I follow God, the more I see the power of befriending people and studying the Bible with them. There is nothing more beautiful than being used by God to have them experience the true fulfillment that only God can give them.”

There is no doubt in my mind that these two young men have been called by God to serve in our church for such a time as this. Their roles consist of finding Bible study contacts and training our members to give Bible studies to them.

Campion Church, our goal is to engage 50 contacts in regular Bible studies by June 1 of this year. Andre and Eddie will help us reach this goal, but God needs you to reach one person for Him this year. If you would like to know how can get involved in giving Bible studies, please contact pastor Nestor at nsoriano1@gmail.com.
Campion Ordains Three Church Elders
By Ardis Stenbakken

One of the many important leadership offices in a local church is that of elder. Here at Campion Church, we have twelve who serve as elders. These are Steve Eickmann, Elliot Fortner, Caleb Jahn, Phil Jones, Rob Kahler, Kent Kast, Kim Mehlenbacher, Alex Rodriguez, Eddie Schwisow, (Head) Dick Stenbakken, Ben Trujillo, and Wes Williamson. These individuals are chosen by the nominating committee and serve for a two-year term. At left, three elders Rob Kahler, Caleb Jahn and Wes Williamson are ordained during the church service January 21, 2021.

According to the Church Manual 2016) Elders are to be:
“Religious Leaders of the Church—Elders must be recognized by the church as strong spiritual leaders and must have good reputations both in the church and community. In the absence of a pastor, elders are the spiritual leaders of the church and by precept and example must seek to lead the church into a deeper and fuller Christian experience.

“Elders should be able to conduct the services of the church and minister in both word and doctrine when the assigned pastor is unavailable. However, elders should not be chosen primarily because of social position or speaking ability, but because of their consecrated lives and leadership abilities.

“Elders may be reelected, but it is not advisable for them to serve indefinitely. The church is under no obligation to reelect and may choose others whenever changes seem advisable. Upon the election of new elders, the former elders no longer function as elders but may be elected to other church offices”

At Campion the elders meet once a month and have been working on team leadership and how to care for and nurture the church members, those who are active, those who are shut-in or inactive, and those who have moved away.

In the following months, we will be featuring these individuals here in the Campion Connections so you have a chance to get acquainted and know who you should talk to if you have questions or suggest

All About People
Graduate Nick Humphries Chooses Campion Church
Nicholas Humphries attended Campion Academy with his younger brother, Weston. He says, “It was a good experience and taught me a lot about life.” After working for Avionics Specialists last year, he decided to finish his degree at Walla Walla University. His degree will be a BBA in Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing.

His hobbies include dirt biking, backpacking, shooting, and getting his hands dirty working on motors. He finished by saying, “I like Campion Church because of the great pastors and sense of community.”

Lorraine Binder Honored
We here at Campion are very proud of our senior citizens, our Prime Timers. This March we are celebrating Lorraine Binder who is turning 92.

Lorraine says she praises God every day for His blessings and that she is able to stay in her home, doing her work. The Bible verse that gives her courage and keeps her going is Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

March 6 International Women's Day of Prayer
Since 1990, women around the world have been celebrating the first Sabbath of March as an opportunity to join other women around the world in prayer during the International Women’s Day of Prayer. There are many needs of the women here in our own community for whom we can pray, and around the world there are areas of much greater needs.

This day has been celebrated in a variety of ways: prayer breakfasts, fasting and prayer, consecration services, women preaching the sermons for church services, and other special programs. Here at Campion this March 6 we will be having the morning prayer at church and handing out a “Thirty Day Prayer Challenge” addressing local and world-wide needs. All are encouraged to join in this challenge.
Youth and Young Adult Conference Coming to Northern Colorado March 19-21
It's time to wake up.
We hear this often. There is no doubt that God’s people should arise---“watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation" (Matt. 26:41). But what does it really mean to be awake? How can we live a life that will awaken others? That is the question we are seeking to answer at the first annual West Central Young Adults Conference, “Awaken.”
West Central Young Adults (WCYA) was started in early 2020, by a group of young people in the Colorado area who had a shared passion of knowing Jesus and wanting to share Him with others. The mission of WCYA is to inspire and educate young people to share the gospel with all those they come in contact with. We are looking for young people who will not only be involved in mission but join forces with their local church and members, to inspire all, regardless of age, to win souls for the kingdom of God. WCYA will hold annual meetings and provide resources and opportunities for youth and young adults in the West Central region to reach others for Christ.
The weekend conference will be held March 19-21, at Campion Seventh-day Adventist Church in Loveland, Colorado. The keynote speaker will be Dee Casper, director of CORE evangelism training program. The conference will focus on training, outreach, prayer, and spiritual renewal through prayer time, keynote sessions, and breakout sessions. How can we as young people “hasten the coming of the Lord?” We must awaken and tell the world the message of our very soon coming Savior.

“And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.” – Romans 13:11

“Can Do” Kids Dissect Real Hearts
By Jill Harlow
Photos by Paul Bragaw
The science unit on the circulatory system came to life for the 5th and 6th grade students in Paul Bragaw’s “Can-do” themed classroom when they dissected lamb hearts this month.

This was the first experience with a dissection for the fifth grade students in the class. “At first I thought it was going to be disgusting and I was afraid that I was going to faint,” said Zachary H., fifth grader. “But then when we cut it open, it wasn’t so bad, and it was cool that we could actually touch it and move it, so we could understand hearts better.”

It is not often that students of this age get to experience a true dissection, and it made a big impression.

“It did smell bad,” said Natalie T., another fifth grade student, “but I was surprised how it looked so much like my own heart. I think it was fun learning more about how the different parts of the lamb’s heart relate to the human heart, and how important all the little different pieces are, even though they are so small.”

Bragaw finds it important to include a variety of hands-on activities, especially in science class, because he sees that they capture the students’ attention and make them excited to learn. “They were very careful and took their time with the details of the dissection. Students were in awe of how God has created the body, especially the heart.”

Sabbath, February 13, Campion’s church service was filled with colorful flags, greetings, and songs in different languages. Students and church members paraded with a variety of flags from countries all around the world, with many wearing traditional cultural clothing.

The congregation sang in six different languages and students read Bible verses in other languages, too. Airi Nomura, an international student from Japan, said, “It was very hard but fun to sing in many different languages. I really liked when everyone was trying to say “Jesus loves you” in Japanese.”

Church Business
Minutes
Offerings this Month
March 6: Local Church Budget.
Did you notice that in January we fell $2882.67 behind in our church budget? It really is amazing how well we have done up to this point, and it may just be a temporary falling behind. This offering is so important for all we do in our local church.

March 13: Adventist World Radio
Radio can cross borders where people are not allowed, and in countries where there is no religious freedom. AWR broadcasts on AM, FM, satellite, internet, shortwave, and something called Godpods. The ministry often has evangelistic meetings around the world to bring people to baptism who have been listening to the gospel over the air.

March 20: Local Church Budget:
We hope the Covid pandemic will soon be behind us, and as more of us gather together there are going to be increased needs. Things wear out and other things get used up, and sometimes we just need more tables and chairs and bulletins, and so much more. This is the offering that pays for all those necessities.

March 27: Rocky Mountain Conference Advance:
Ten percent of the RMC Advance helps with church and school building projects; Campion Church hopes to get some help from this offering to pay off our addition, kitchen, furnace, sprinklers, etc. Unfortunately, this 10% cannot keep up with the demand—and this is only one of the areas this offering covers.
Building Campaign Status
Loan Status:
The building’s loan outstanding balance was $59,495.28 as of February 15. Repayment is $1,202.03/month. This does not include financing the kitchen remodel.

Kitchen Update:
The Major Improvements Committee has voted a kitchen with a serving area that will be separated by a wall with a significant moveable area/or barn door style doors.
