Spring - and daylight saving time - is right around the corner. While we humans will miss that hour of sleep, the switch to daylight saving time can also affect our dogs.

According to dogtime.com, "Animals don’t set their routines by the clock that we use as humans to keep on schedule. They have their own circadian rhythm – a biological clock that helps them know when to eat, sleep, go potty, and do everything else in their day. So when humans change the clock for the start of daylight saving time, it can affect dogs more strongly."

Don't forget to set your clocks ahead Sunday, March 14th!

Find a starting point far enough away so you can start the walk without pulling.

If your dog pulls, turn around and go back to your starting point.

If your dog does not pull, reward with a treat and continue walking.

Once you can make it the entire way without pulling, reward the dog by allowing him to greet the dog, person or gain access to the item.

Set your dog up for success
Positive reinforcement trainers often remind clients to "set their dog up for success."

What does this cliche mean?

Set your dog up for success by teaching your dog new skills and behaviors clearly and consistently. Increase difficulty in a fair and structured manner. And if your dog is in a really challenging situation, don't let him fail. Provide motivation and guidance to encourage him to do the right thing.
