Faculty Spotlight
Professor Meaghan Brewer

Dr. Meaghan Brewer , Assistant Professor in the English Department, directs the
Writing Enhanced Course Program on the NYC campus and teaches courses in composition, rhetoric, and literacy. Dr. Brewer just published  Conceptions of Literacy: Graduate Instructors and the Teaching of First-Year Composition , which proposes a theoretical framework for examining new graduate student instructors’ preexisting attitudes and beliefs about literacy. She also wrote on the topic of literacy and graduate teacher education in a recent  Composition Forum  article.
Professor Zhan Zhang

Dr. Zhan Zhang , Assistant Professor at the Seidenberg School of CSIS, studies the ways in which we can design and use novel technologies to support information sharing, decision making, and collaboration in highly dynamic environment, such as healthcare settings. Last month, Dr. Zhang received a major award from the National Science Foundation for his project “Novel Approaches for Real-Time Data Capture in Fast-Paced Medical Work.” His research will develop novel tools and interaction techniques for real-time and hands-free data capture in fast-paced medical work, such as Emergency Medical Services.

Congratulations to the 2020
Classroom Based Research Awards Winners!
The Classroom Based Research Award is for innovative ideas that incorporate original, authentic research projects into the curriculum across disciplines. Winning projects present innovative research questions in a variety of areas including: human rights mobilization for girls around the world; exploration into artistic, historical, and political connections between Emily Dickinson and Audre Lorde; exploring the relationship between positive student outcomes and professor-student rapport, and how soil microbial communities will respond to environmental damage caused by the disintegration of tropical forests.

The Classroom Based Research Award is sponsored by the Provost’s Office and administered by the Office of Research.
