A Message From The Superintendent
Good afternoon Falcon Families,
Panorama Surveys
We just want to remind our families to please take a few minutes to complete the Panorama survey that went home a few weeks ago. Out of approximately 900 families, we have only received 140 responses. Because we value your feedback, the Governing Board with a team of stakeholders will be developing a strategic plan for the district with the information you provide. If you did not receive the survey information or you need it sent to you again, please email Krista Andreae at kandreae@fhacademics.org and provide her with the school(s) your child(ren) attend and she will immediately respond with the information you will need to access the survey.
Online Annual Registration for the 2021-2022 School Year
We are asking that you also take the time to please complete the online annual registration. This online process replaces the piles of paperwork completed by hand at the beginning of each school year. Simply go to your PowerSchool parent portal account, click on forms to the left and complete all "Student Information" forms. We are already feverishly working on planning for next school year and this information is imperative in the process. Should you have any challenges with completing this online process, please contact your school's registrar below. We are always happy to help. Please know that students with incomplete registrations will not be issued a schedule or assigned a teacher until the registration is complete.
We appreciate your time and wish you a great weekend!

Dear MMES Falcon Families:
The busy month of April is almost over! Here’s what’s been happening and what’s coming up at MMES:
End-of-Year Assessments
Third graders started their AzM2 state testing on April 12. We’ve had a great, spread-out schedule and will finish all testing by the April 30 deadline.
May 3-21, MMES will administer the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) end-of-year benchmark assessment to students in kindergarten through 3rd grade. DIBELS helps teachers determine how students are performing on the “big idea” reading skills of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The results assist teachers with making decisions about their whole class and small group reading instruction as well as enrichment and interventions. With this being the last benchmark of the school year, the results will be compared to December’s results to show growth as well as guide students’ teachers for next school year. The assessment is administered one-on-one and takes about 7-10 minutes per student.
Also during May 3-21, MMES will also administer an end-of-year benchmark assessment for kindergarten and post-tests in 1st-3rd grades similar to their September pre-tests using our current standards-based assessment system, ATI Galileo. Kindergarten assessments will be administered one-on-one verbally and with students performing tasks. First grade assessments will be on paper. All of second and third grade assessments will be online through the students’ ATI logins and they will have the universal accommodation of text-to-speech (questions read aloud) for Math. Not only can these test be compared to the September pre-tests and guide students’ teachers for next school year, having a standards-based post-test is required by the state as part of the district’s distance learning plan.
Happy Earth Day on April 22!
In our next Falcon Focus, we’ll share information and photos about our Earth Day and Fairness assembly video from April 22. For now, we wanted to share with you some examples of artwork that Mrs. Perry’s students created by using recycled materials such as cups and cardboard pieces. As Mrs. Perry explains, “Students used a variety of materials to create a recognizable three-dimensional artwork.” Her classes learned about and were inspired by artists “who use their imagination to see past the ‘trash’ and see art in it.” Here are three examples below:

Happy Falcon Focus Day!
I hope this message finds you and your family doing well and seeing a small bit of light at the end of the tunnel. That being said, we do have a little over 4 weeks of school and great learning to get through, but it is important to see the end is near.
It has been a great two weeks here at Fountain Hills Middle School as we have been completing our Arizona State testing. I want to first thank the staff for all of their hard work over the testing days, making sure our students were all set to test and providing a great testing experience. This was just another reminder to me that I work alongside the best staff in education.
Thank you also to the parents and students for your commitment, preparation and execution of working with the school on our State Testing. We had students here on time and ready to go each day. This made the process run smoothly and gave our students a chance to show off their skills.
We will be in the process of doing make-ups the week of April 26th – April 30th. Students will be alerted to when they need to report for make-ups and we will get those done.
FHMS Celebrations:
Cereal Box Drive
A huge thank you to the staff, students and parents who helped us smash our goal for this worthwhile project. More details to come on the domino effect and the handing over of the boxes of cereal.
Middle School Basketball
Both our Girls and Boys teams continue to power their way through the season. I am so proud of the way they represent themselves and the school while playing this season. Life lessons are being learned and our student-athletes are becoming sturdier human beings with every hurdle they have to jump over.
Principal’s List Honor Roll
Look for Quarter 3 Principal’s List and Honor Roll to come out next week as we celebrate the great work being done by these students.
3rd Grade Visit
We hosted the current 3rd grade class from MMES here on Friday April 23rd. We got to meet our newest family members and cannot wait to get them on campus full-time in August.
This has been a challenging year at times, but the staff and students have made it a great year. I am excited as we move into the final stretch and we get a chance to reflect on all that we have accomplished. Thank you for the partnership and trust you have given to the school and for sharing your student with us each and every day.
In Partnership,
Jeff Markle
