Distance Learning & School Updates: April 17

I trust you had a restful spring break and have moved smoothly back into online learning this week as we deliver Distance Learning to you for the remainder of the school year. Here are some updates for you from this week:

Zoom Security Update: To maintain and strengthen our Distance Learning security, we have assembled a cybersecurity team that has created the following document that outlines specifically how we are securing your child's online education including Zoom protocols in our teacher training. Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Technical Issues: If you continue to have technology issues at home, please email Mrs. Davis ([email protected]) and she will help you! Please include (CC) your teacher in this email so he/she knows you are having technology issues that day.

All Grades on Google Classroom: This week, we onboarded grades K-3 through 2nd on Google Classroom. Great job early elementary teachers, parents, and students!

Enhancements: Now that we will be doing Distance Learning through May, we are adding several enhancements to our offerings for those who want to take advantage of them. These opportunities are optional. They include:

Elementary Music, elementary PE, and elementary media center

Weekly PE Challenges by Coach Thomas with winners celebrated in
Elementary Chapel

8th Grade Spanish by Mrs. Galiano

Athletic Development Program (ADP) videos by Coach Evans (high school)

Minecraft in History technology elective course by Mrs. Davis (secondary)*

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology elective course by Mrs. Davis
        (secondary)*

*Look for an invitation to these courses from Mrs. Davis. Students who were taking technology classes this semester before Distance Learning will have priority access.

Chapel: We started Chapel the week before break with our Easter Chapel, thanks to Mr. Roberts. Chapels continued this week and will be a weekly feature in grades 1-12 the remainder of the school year.

Lockers, Personal Effects, & Book Drop-off: We have gotten this question often! Until we hear back from the Governor on revised shelter-in-place and social distancing guidelines, we can't give you a definite plan and date. Our hope is that before we head into summer, we will have a day when families can come to school to collect personal belongings and clean out lockers. If not, we will come up with another plan for you to retrieve these items in a timely fashion. Likewise, we will be collecting hardbound textbooks. Look for another email in May that will explain how you will be returning hard-bound textbooks only to school.

End-Of-The-Year Programs: We are working hard to celebrate each grade level before school lets out for the summer. Look for individual grade level emails highlighting these events and dates. Middle school programs will be the week of May 4 and High School the week of May 11. Elementary programs will be the week of May 18.

Please continue to stay safe and healthy while practicing shelter-in-place and social distancing. Thank you for your love and support as we strive to learn together online. Praying with you for the safety of everyone in our community including health care workers and first responders, and for the elimination of the Coronavirus.

Praying with you

Dr. Dougherty
