CHURCH OF THE HOLY COMFORTER
May 28, 2020
Join us for the Consecration of our New Bishop,
Frank Logue this Saturday at 11:00am

God willing and the people consenting, Presiding Bishop Michael Curry will ordain and consecrate Frank Sullivan Logue as the 11th Bishop of Georgia on May 30th, 2020. The liturgy will begin at 11 a.m.

Due to concerns about COVID-19, this liturgy will be a livestream event for all but a small group of those required for the liturgy. Join the l ivestream at www.facebook.com/georgiaepiscopal

The service may also be viewed on the new diocesan YouTube Channel . For additional photos of the day or some behind-the-scenes fun, follow the diocesan Instagram page and #bishopofgeorgia.

A DIFFERENT SORT OF PENTECOST
It seems almost a lifetime ago but the original plans for Pentecost were to join in a diocesan wide celebration in Savannah. Things change but the celebration continues. Instead of livestreaming our own service of Pentecost we will be joining in for a virtual celebration with the diocese this Sunday, May 31 at 10:00am through the Diocesan Facebook Page located here: www.facebook.com/georgiaepiscopal Please note the time difference - 10:00am rather than our usual 10:30 am.

Holy Comforter will be well represented. We are providing all the readers: Liz Hahn, Mallory Morgan, Court Hooper and Thomas Saunders:

FOOD DRIVE
Drive through and drop off non-perishables at Church of the Holy Comforter, 473 Fury’s Ferry Road on Saturday, June 6 from 10 to Noon.

Please bring non-perishable food. You do not need to get out of your cars. Volunteers wearing masks and gloves will collect the items from your vehicles. You can also bring baby food, kids books (in good condition) and pet food.

We are joining with other area churches and want to be able to feed three hundred children this summer.

Want to volunteer? Contact Food Drive Chairperson Jenny Frey at spadejentrowel@gmail.com.

A BIG THANK YOU
Last Saturday we had a great group of volunteers practicing physical distancing while making sure that the ground of Holy Comforter got some long delayed TLC. Special thanks to Ray Bourne and the Men’s Group, Tab Carter and others who worked so hard. It looks great!
CHILDREN'S MINISTRY
Our lesson this week will be “Jesus Calms the Storm”. In this scary time of Covid-19, it is important for kids to understand that, just as Jesus told his disciples, they, too, can trust in his protection and presence, even in the face of danger, disaster and illness. Most often, we survive storms and make it through rough times with patient endurance and trust in God’s promises. CHALLENGE: Draw or paint a picture showing how God is good in your life! The follow-up craft this week is creating an ocean in a bottle. See if you can make it storm with big waves!

If you have not had a chance to fill out the survey yet, please take a moment to do so. It will really help me plan the virtual Sunday School and VBS lessons! Thank you!

YOUTH NEWS
Youth Pastor Darlene Bourque has been making “driveway visits” with our youth. Each person gets a container full of popcorn and chocolate. Yum! Darlene and company will be making more driveway youth visits this week. We miss you all!

Join in for Compline on Zoom every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 8:00PM. This is geared for the youth in the diocese, but anyone can join in! Zoom meeting ID can be found on the Diocese of Georgia Youth Facebook Page. You will need to message them for a password.

The youth are doing a 5-day devotional this coming week through the YouVersion Bible app called Priceless: Who I Am When I Feel...This devotional discusses how feelings are gift from God to make space in your heart for more of Him!
Our worship continues even while we are physically separated. Preparing for Sunday is a tool that we will be using to help each of us do just that - prepare for Sunday worship by engaging in the assigned lessons from Scripture.

It includes an overview, a lesson introduction, a reflection, and a prayer starter. It is available on our website here .

GUEST PREACHER AND OFFICIANT
The pastor, Cynthia Taylor, will be away on vacation June 2– 12. The Rev. Erwin Veale will be the guest preacher on June 7 and boy, does he have a story to tell. In his capacity as serving as a chaplain at University Hospital, Erwin contracted COVID-19. Fortunately, he is fully recovered and is now donating plasma to see if they can help other persons infected with the virus. [Use picture of Erwin from May 14 FB page here].
In case of a pastoral emergency, please contact our Senior Warden Fred Hoogland at 770-335-7942.

THE HOLY COMFORTER STAFF
In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19,  Holy Comforter staff will be working remotely until further notice. Email is the quickest way to get in touch with the staff:

NOT JUST YET
We are all longing to get together again for in-person worship but that won’t happen just yet—at least not for the month of June and perhaps beyond. Holy Comforter is not making these decisions alone. The Diocese of Georgia is coordinating with the Diocese of Atlanta on best practices to ensure the safety of our people. All the churches will be opening on the same Sunday, with the exception of any hotspots. Your priest and Vestry are working with these dioceses to facilitate the best and safest way to re-open, including consulting with epidemiologists from Emory.  Thank you for your patience.
GIVING

HOW TO GIVE
If at all possible, please keep up with your financial gifts to the church. Money is always tight but never more than now. When this crisis has passed, I want us to pick up where we left off and continue to expand our mission and ministry of Jesus Christ.

There are several ways to give. You can press the "Donate Now" button below or go on-line to our website at www.holycomforterchurch.org and click on Giving at the top right hand. Finally, you can mail checks to: Church of the Holy Comforter, 473 Fury’s Ferry Road, Martinez, Georgia, 30809.

For those with an IRA account, due to COVID-19, RMDs in 2020 are not required but are still a tax saving for the donor and much needed and appreciated by Holy Comforter.
