Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina

June 24, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Earlier this afternoon, Governor Roy Cooper announced Executive Order 147 whereby he is extending North Carolina Phase 2 until July 17.  As such, please know that all diocesan directives remain in effect during Phase 2:

1. No indoor, in-person worship will be allowed during Phase 2. Clergy may continue to offer virtual worship from the sanctuary of their church with the understanding that no more than 10 people may assist in the liturgy.

2. Outdoor in-person, worship or other church events will be allowed with no more than 25 persons present and where you can adequately space people or family groups 6 feet or more apart.

Furthermore, Executive Order 147 mandates face coverings be worn in public settings, especially where people can not be six feet or more apart. I am encouraging church leaders to continue practicing all health guidelines I initiated in May, including the use of masks.

Please know I am grateful for each one of you and your ministry. You remain in my prayers.

Faithfully,
The Rt. Rev. José A. McLoughlin
Bishop of the Diocese of Western North Carolina
