Several of the soccer clubs across the state have returned to training and practice and some recreational leagues held a short summer season. It is so fantastic to see the kids back on the fields after months of being isolated and quarantined.
Players, parents and coaches alike are excited to get back out there and play the game they love and have missed over the past several months. We share their excitement and enjoy seeing our members taking advantage of opportunities to play.
We are gearing up for our Fall season, which starts August 1, 2020. Many have inquired as to our intentions and plans for the upcoming season, and we can assure you that we want a normal, active season. Our
Return to Play Guidelines will remain in effect until the government and our national affiliates lift restrictions that would allow us to do the same.

THE ALL NEW WYOMING STATE LEAGUE
|
|
Last month the Wyoming Soccer Association Board of Directors approved a new League format/structure which will start with the beginning of our new season on August 1, 2020. This will be a BIG change for all of us.
What will the new Wyoming State League look like, and how will it impact you?
For starters:
- There will be NO MORE LEAGUE WEEKENDS
- League Games can be played during Wyoming Soccer Association sanctioned tournaments
- League games can only be scheduled within a single division (i.e. Gold, Silver, RecFest)
- Reduced League Fees
- League games will be the basis for seeding for Wyoming Cup & Championships & RecFest
A committee with representation from across the state, led by Technical Director, David Hayes, and in conjunction with office staff, developed the new league structure and we sincerely hope you will see the benefits and enjoy the added value.
Please take some time to review the new Wyoming State League Structure.

August (Augie) Hoelscher is in the spotlight for the month of July! Augie is with the Jackson Hole Youth Soccer Club and typically plays up, currently playing on the Jackson 2006 Boys Black team.
A
ugie has been playing soccer since he could walk, always kicking a ball. He has played competitively since he was eight years old, and typically plays the #10 mid field position.
He absolutely loves soccer and is a standout player. In 2019, Augie attended the ODP Sub-Regional event, was selected for an ODP West Region ID Camp and made it all the way to the West Region winter camp in California. He came back out this past winter and joined us for the 2020 ODP Sub-Regional event and was again selected for the ODP ID Camp in Oregon before it was cancelled. These are tremondous honors, as only a small handful of players from across the state make it to this level.
"Augie is a great player and a great personality on and of the field.
The thing that I am impressed the most about is that wherever he goes, he has a socc
er ball with him, and if there is a pick up street soccer game, Augie is definitely playing," says his coach, George Hahui.
Other than soccer, Augie ski races in the winter for Jackson Hole Ski Club, mountain bikes, hikes and enjoys all things outdoors. He was even recognized by Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard Club for his great sportsmanship and positive attitude as an alpine athlete. He has had many top-10 finishes and has qualified for the Intermountain Division Championships. To say this boy is an all-around athlete and overacheiver is an understatement!
Besides soccer, one of his favorite things to do when not participating in sports is just chilling along side his older brother, Charlie, and his younger sister, Ruby.
Augie is always a pleasure to be around with his infectious smile and can be heard cheering on his teammates - he exemplifies leadership and the importanice of keeping a positive attitude no matter what, and we are proud to honor him as our player spotlight for July!
We want to hear more about players like Augie.
Remember, the player spotlight can highlight achievement in any area, whether it's soccer, academics, community, or attitude. Please share your kids with us!

THE LATEST FROM US YOUTH SOCCER
|
|
US Youth Soccer has expanded into the sport of Futsal. If you recall, last year, Wyoming Soccer hosted our first ever Wyoming Futsal League and we plan to grow on that momentum. We want players to have opportunities to continue to play and develop during our cold, winter months.
By incorporating Futsal, US Youth Soccer and Wyoming Soccer are creating an inclusive soccer culture designed to increase the number of children playing soccer. Futsal programming improves player technical creativity and capabilities while building healthier children and stronger communities. We want to ensure every player has the opportunity to play futsal as a part of their continued development. The establishment of a USYS Futsal National Championship is the next step to promote and support Futsal at all levels.

THE LATEST FROM US SOCCER
|
|
Although we have our own Return to Play Guidelines, it is important to be mindful of what experts around the country are advising. Being part of Wyoming Soccer Association means you are part of something much bigger, all the way up to the US Soccer Federation. We tap into their resources and seek their advice and we wanted to share this with you.
US Soccer Chief Medical Officer, George Chiampas has voiced his excitement about the
prospect of sharing in the positive elements of playing, coaching, refereeing and simply being fans of this great sport once again and issued a
letter to all US Soccer Members
.
In his letter, he emphasizes that while it’s a new, and at times uncertain, environment, we are going to navigate this together through knowledge, information and shared responsibility.
To further that mission, the U.S. Soccer Federation has conducted extensive research and utilized expertise inside and outside the organization to assemble guidelines and best practices in an effort to inform, educate and assist in the process of return to play.
These guidelines and best practices are intended for use WHEN AND IF local authorities have deemed it safe to return to the practice field. That said, we all know the game of soccer is important to the physical, mental and emotional wellness of our youth players. In consideration of how COVID-19 is transmitted, it is vitally important that EVERYONE involved in the process of return-to-place does so with extreme diligence and attention to the widely-agreed-upon standards and guidelines.
US Soccer's approach to return to play is divided into five phases, representing the different stages of progress required to achieve the ultimate goal of playing with no restrictions or recommendations related to COVID-19.
The U.S. Soccer PLAY ON initiative has released

The Current State of College Soccer Recruiting
|
|
As we all continue to navigate the impact of COVID-19 within the sports community, we want to ensure the correct information is out there regarding the current state of college soccer recruiting.
The NCAA and other governing bodies of college athletics have made adjustments and rule changes to their recruiting calendars, but this does not mean that your players need to wait to get recruited!
Instituted changes are as follows:
- NCAA D1 programs are observing a dead period through August 31
- NCAA D2 programs are observing a quiet period through July 31
- Colleges are advised to suspend official visits and unofficial on-campus visits
- Coaches and recruits can still communicate via phone and written correspondence (email, text and social media DMs)
