Gregory will talk about the principles of geography in romantic comedy "The Marvelous Mrs Maisel". (In Russian)

From Israel to Ethiopia: Virtual Tour with Einat Klein
Sunday , June 28th, at 5PM

How did the Jews end up in Ethiopia, what was their significance in the royal court, what role did Judith play, where are the Tablets of the Covenant, and much more.
Tour will be led by Einat Klein, a famous Israeli journalist, photographer and guide of ethno- and photo-tours in the Middle East, Asia and Africa. (In Russian)

At this session led by historian and educator Yigal Kotler, we will discuss the paradoxical Birobidzhan project, the influence of collectivization and industrialization on the Jews, the authorities fighting against the use of Hebrew, and the arrest of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. We will talk about cultural figures like Mikhoels and Chagall who tried to preserve their Jewishness and those like Babel and Mandelshtam who sought to become part of the great Russian and new Socialist literature. Also, we will explore the topic of the Great Stalin Terror (1934-1938) and the Jews.
Presentation will be conducted in Russian. Advance registration is required.

 
Yemenite Jewry: From the Times of the Temple to Today

A virtual tour of sights, sounds and culture with Drora Arussy, Director of the Institute of Jewish Experience of the American Sephardi Federation, and Eddie Ashkenazie, Co-Curator of the Teimani Experience. 
During this journey we will explore the unique history of Yemenite Jewry, their famous cultural sights, wedding traditions, jewelry and traditional food, and learn about the Yemenite Jewish community in modern Israel.
 
The Parisian School: Sentimental Journey to the 
Russian Jewish Montparnasse  with Yulia Patrakova

Amedeo Modigliani, Marc Chagall, Chaim Soutine, and many others will become the heroes of our artistic encounter. (In Russian) Yulia Patrakova is a literary and art critic. She is engaged in Jewish family educational and entertainment programs.

Learn about the rich menu of seminars - on Jewish and Western thought, Zionism and Modern Israel, Politics and Strategy, Classical Literature.

Israeli Technology & Innovation
by The Alexander Muss High School In Israel and Jookender Community 
Wednesdays, July 8th - August 12th, at 10:30AM

A six-week in-depth course is exploring the amazing world of Israeli technology and innovation. Each session will take a deep dive into a different sector of the "Start-Up Nation." The best candidates will be offered an opportunity to spend 1/2 year in Israel and a $10,000 Scholarship to study in Israel High School.
Open for students in 8th-12th grades.
 
Bronx Bohemians, with David Mazower

An illustrated presentation about the cosmopolitan literary salon of Yiddish poet Bertha Kling. From the 1900s to the 1950s, the Klings' apartment in the Bronx was a gathering place for Yiddish writers, musicians, and actors, somewhere to hear the latest Yiddish modernist poetry, literary gossip, and news from Paris, Warsaw, or Hollywood.
 
Houdini Comes Alive

Harry Houdini wasn't born. He was invented. The world's most famous magician began life as Erik Weisz, the son of a Hungarian rabbi. In 1878 immigration to the U.S. transformed Erik Weisz into Ehrich Weiss. It was the first of many transformations for the man who would become the first international superstar. Join this magical performance with magician David London as he takes us back in time to truly discover the world's first superstar.
 
Pride Shabbat: Masha Gessen & Pete Buttigieg
Thursday, June 25th, at 7:30PM

Masha Gessen is the author of ten books, including the just published Surviving Autocracy, the National Book Award-winning The Future Is History: How Totalitarianism Reclaimed Russia and The Man Without a Face: The Unlikely Rise of Vladimir Putin. A staff writer at The New Yorker and the recipient of numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Carnegie Fellowship, Gessen teaches at Bard College and lives in New York City.

Shura Lipovsky performed as a singer, a Jewish storyteller (Magid) and a songwriter, in most of the important concert halls (The Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Carnegie Hall New York, Salle Gaveau in Paris etc.) and has been a regular teacher in klezmer festivals around the world.
Zhenya Lopatnik (COJECO BluePrint Alumna) has released three albums of original songs and has served for over a decade as the vocalist of Kharkov Klezmer Band. She is also a key organizer of the international Klezmer festival Kharkov Klezmer Teg, and has been awarded the Golden Chanukiah Prize from the "World Congress of Russian Jewry" for her contribution to Yiddish culture.

ASF IJE Travels in Jewish History from home presents Journey to Yemen, a journey in time and space powered by Diarna Geo-Museum Tours.
Vsit Yemen and learn about its millennia old Jewish community, visit major places of settlement and famous sites, and learn some unique aspects of this isolated yet well connected community.

 
Family History Today: Jewish Refugees & the U.S. Mexico Border

In this presentation, Moriah Amit, the Center for Jewish History's senior genealogy librarian, will explore the lesser-known history of Jewish refugee immigration to the U.S. via Latin America. Additionally, for those whose ancestors came to America through this route, Moriah will explain how to locate records that will shed light on their journey.
 
Jews and the Right

Historian Philipp Nielsen will discuss his book, Between Heimat and Hatred: Jews and the Right in Germany, 1871-1935 with historian Jay Geller, author of the 2019 study The Scholems: A Story of the German-Jewish Bourgeoisie from Emancipation to Destruction. They will examine the forces that shaped Jewish political identity and action in this period.
 
The Volunteer Book Talk with Author Jack Fairweather

In "The Volunteer," award-winning journalist Jack Fairweather reconstructs the remarkable, little-known story of Witold Pilecki, the Polish cavalry officer who spent nearly three years in Auschwitz clandestinely working to undermine the Germans and inform the Allies of Nazi crimes.
 
When Light Pierced the Darkness: A Danish Rescue Story
Thursday, July 2nd, at 2PM

In 1943, Danish officials learned that the Germans were planning to deport all of the Jews in Denmark. Leo Goldberger was 13 years old when his family received an official warning to go into hiding before escaping to Sweden. His family arrived safely in Sweden just as hundreds of other fishing boats carried nearly every Jew in Denmark to safety.
 

Calling all Russian Speakers to join JDC Entwine's Babushka Hotline, an Insider Connections Global Virtual Service opportunity to virtually engage in service with a community member in need. JDC Entwine volunteers have unique access to help meet the social needs of JDC aid recipients across the FSU, Israel and beyond, including the elderly and teens in the community.
 
Host Margarita Korol speaks with fellow Russian-speaking Jewish young professionals on their efforts to build community. In this second episode of Not Your Babushka's Russian Speaking Jew, she explores the "why" that drives RSJ young professionals, with and without recent immigration out of the FSU. 
 
The National Library of Israel

The National Library of Israel continues to serve as a platform for culture, knowledge and inspiration even during this difficult time.
You are invited to visit The Reading Room, a new virtual space where you can enjoy live lectures, conversations and interviews via Zoom, as well as a range of previously recorded events.
 
Diarna - The Geo-Museum 

Diarna (דיארנא ديارنا "Our homes" in Judeo-Arabic): The Geo-Museum of North African and Middle Eastern Jewish Life is working to digitally preserve the physical remnants of Jewish history throughout the region. We are in a race against time to capture site data and record place-based oral histories before even the memories of these communities are lost.
