For those attending the American Association of Suicidology's (AAS)
virtual conference next week, below are two sessions led by SPRC staff that highlight important topics related to state infrastructure. We hope to “see” you at one or both of these!
“You Can’t Build a House without a Foundation”
April 24, 2020, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. PT
In this TED Talk-style presentation, SPRC Director
Elly Stout will discuss the need to make a more sustained commitment to suicide prevention, including building a stronger state and local foundation that "bakes in" suicide prevention, drawing on existing community strengths, expertise, and resources. The talk will include real examples of how states and communities are strengthening their infrastructure to build a foundation for reducing suicide deaths and attempts over the long term.
“Expanding the Field’s Focus from Evidence-Based Programs to Evidence-Based Decision-Making”

SPRC Announces New Three-Part State Plans Webinar Series:
Using State Plans to Promote & Evaluate Statewide Suicide Prevention Efforts
As you know, the AAS conference has transitioned to a web-based platform, and as such, preconference workshops have been canceled or modified, including SPRC’s full-day preconference session on state plan development that was announced in the
last issue of this newsletter. However—SPRC is happy to share that we have restructured the event and will be offering close-to-the-same content via a three-part webinar series on May 12, June 15, and July 22, 2020, from 2 to 3 p.m. ET.
This webinar series will provide timely guidance and support to state leaders on enhancing their suicide prevention infrastructure. It will feature presentations from state suicide prevention leaders from Minnesota and North Carolina, SPRC, SAMHSA, and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL), who will discuss how state plans can be used to advance state-level suicide prevention infrastructure.
To register, please complete this
short registration survey
by Friday, May 8, and within a week of registering you will receive calendar invitations and additional details from SPRC staff regarding the series webinars.
