MARCH/APRIL 2021
YOUTH MINISTRY
UPDATE

Dear Youth, Parents, & Leaders,

Can you believe all we've been through as a church and as a nation in the past 12 months?  One year ago this month was the beginning of the shut-downs that we've all become sadly accustomed to experiencing.

What has God taught you?

COVID has taught me much, but especially about the need to have and show grace to others.  Though we've never understood all that others go through, their motives, fears, etc., this past year has exposed much about each of us.  This season of our lives has been unlike any other that most anyone alive today has ever experienced.  God has also shown me that not even a pandemic that has the globe wrapped in fear can keep the work of His Spirit from moving forward.

We've missed a lot, but we've also had new opportunities we would have NEVER had if COVID hadn't "forced" us to think differently.  I don't love COVID and I don't love the sorrow it's caused so many, but I do love that we have been forced to innovate.  Innovation can be refreshing at times and it's been nice to have some change.  At the same time, there are many old favorites I cannot wait to see and experience again-- as I'd bet you do as well!

I've had the privilege of ministering at First Baptist Kannapolis for the past 7 years.  I am grateful beyond expression for the relationships I've developed here and for the opportunities to serve, lead, grow, and fellowship with this church family.  I, along with all our staff ministers, are graciously offered a sabbatical for every 7 years of service.  My 7th year completed last December.  I'll be stepping away for 4 weeks, but I'm leaving the ministry in good, caring, and capable hands.  While away, I'll be taking a spiritual retreat for 4 days to read, pray, and reflect on life and ministry.  I'll also be visiting family and catching up on some things I've let go.  Though I'm looking forward to what God will show me during the 4 weeks, I look forward to finishing the school year strong with a group of teens I love beginning April 18!

Below is a list of activities you'll need to add to your calendars for the next two months.  May God bless you all as you balance your time among all your various responsibilities at school, with homework, family, jobs, sports, etc.!  You are loved and you are prayed for.  Can't wait to see you soon.  I love you all.

Youth Leadership Team
Summer Planning Meeting

Monday, April 26th
6:00-8:00 p.m.
Fellowship Hall

We'll meet to check-in, have Chick-fil-A dinner boxes for dinner, and plan the summer youth calendar.

Remember to reserve July 30-31 for our annual leadership planning retreat!!!
Invite a friend, win a chance for you (and your friend) to make the "Impossible Shot." Hit the target, win a $5-ish prize. Make it through the center hole and win $20 cash (or  more-- value goes up each time someone misses)! Value resets if someone wins.

Is this a bribe?  No.  It's a fun game you and your friend can play together their first time at our youth group.  They'll learn about God here and be around His people.  That's the best gift of all :)
First Baptist Kannapolis offers all ministers a sabbatical every 7 years. Jonathan will be out of the office from March 19 - April 17.

The youth ministry will continue with the leadership of some of our amazing volunteer leaders who all love Jesus and love our youth!  Other than the Spring Break cancelations, all other youth activities will continue on-schedule.
