JUNE 2022 NEWS

Dear ROSA Community,

Please see the following announcements on upcoming meetings that I hope will be of interest, as well as a reminder that we are looking for two commercial fishermen to join the Responsible Offshore Science Alliance (ROSA) Advisory Council.

Meeting on Prioritization Criteria for Research on Environmental Effects of Offshore Wind

ROSA, the Regional Synthesis Workgroup of the Offshore Wind Environmental Technical Working Group (E-TWG), and other collaborative groups are hosting a meeting to discuss criteria for prioritizing research related to offshore wind environmental impacts on July 13 from 10:30 am-12 pm EST. This meeting is an outgrowth of a mutual understanding across researchers that individual efforts could collectively be more effective if they were guided by agreed-upon prioritization criteria. The meeting will serve as a forum for discussing general criteria for regional research priorities, which can be supplemented with organization-specific criteria, if appropriate.

To learn more about the meeting, read the invitation. Join us for this important discussion, which will be facilitated by the Consensus Building Institute, by registering here.

ROSA Hosts Meeting on Non-Extractive Sampling Techniques at State of the Science Workshop

ROSA Research Director Mike Pol and Executive Director Lyndie Hice-Dunton will moderate a side meeting on non-extractive sampling techniques for resource assessment at the upcoming New York State Energy Research and Development Authority State of the Science Workshop. The meeting aims to identify and share these sampling techniques, which will help protect species when evaluating wildlife and fishery resources as part of the offshore wind development process.

ROSA is proposing a series of talks on different techniques currently being used, as well as panels to enable discussion of how to adapt existing strategies. Those interested in presenting should reach out to Mike at mike@rosascience.org.

The side meeting will take place on July 26 from 1-5 pm EST. You can learn more and register here to participate online or in person. Please contact Mike (mike@rosascience.org) with any questions.
