Opportunities for Washington Educators
 
CSTP recently received funding to develop quick-response online supports and resources for teachers in Washington. Phase 1 of the project creates an Ask-A-Teacher Help Desk and an online Learning Management Systems (LMS) Resource Guide between June-September 2020.
 
Specifically, we are looking to fill two opportunities with teams of educators for Ask-A-Teacher Help Desk Support and Learning Management Systems Resource Curators. Project descriptions for these opportunities as well as other information about the project can be found on our website .

Minimum Qualifications:  
- Must be a practicing educator working in a Washington State public school or district.
- Must have expertise and experience in one or more of the following learning management systems: 
  •    Google Classroom
  •    Canvas
  •    Microsoft Teams
  •    Schoology
  •    Seesaw
 
Timeline:  Applications will close at midnight on Thursday, May 28, 2020. We expect to fill positions by June 5, 2020.

Congratulations to, Tabitha Rosproy, the 2020 National Teacher of the Year

Last week the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) announced that Kansas preschool teacher, Tabitha Rosproy, is the 2020 National Teacher of the Year on CBS This Morning. During her interview, Tabitha gave advice to parents at home with kids saying "give yourself grace", connect with your kids over activities they enjoy and make sure they have opportunities to read.

ICYMI - WA’s Public TV Stations Offer Educational Programs and Resources

Through a partnership with OSPI and former State Superintendent Terry Bergeson, Washington’s local public television stations are sharing resources to support distance learning during this pandemic emergency. These resources do not require students to have access to the internet!
 
Educational television programs are being broadcast for students in grades 6 – 12 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm daily everywhere in Washington on the WORLD Channel. Many of these programs (like NOVA and The American Experience) have supporting resources online for educators such as curriculum and discussion guides. You can access your local public television station and schedule of programs on  OSPI’s website and then select your local public TV station .
 
OSPI, Dr. Bergeson and the public TV stations are interested in hearing teacher perspectives on the materials, resources and communications of this free and available information. A focus group of interested educators will be convened at 5 pm on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, to provide and collect feedback. Please sign-up if you are interested in  participating in the focus group . Are you an evaluator for the CEL or Danielson Frameworks who completed training prior to June 2018? Join us online to engage in activities and discussions about equity and equitable practices that are newly embedded in each instructional framework. Attendees will leave with tools, terms and strategies for monitoring racial equity in their own practice.

Teacher Leadership in the Time of COVID-19
If you’ve experienced CSTP’s Teacher Leadership Framework before or not at all, you’ll want to attend this new session to explore the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to be an effective teacher leader both face to face with colleagues and virtually. During this session participants will bring an edge to their practice as teacher leaders as they analyze and reflect on their own strengths and areas for growth for leading in many situations. We will use protocols and activities that can be adapted for both settings as well as reflect on how leadership is evolving and changing and more important now than ever. Participants will leave this session with a solid foundation for understanding teacher leadership, as well as materials and activities they can easily adapt and use with colleagues and teacher leadership opportunities to consider and explore.
 
Collaborative Facilitation in the Time of COVID-19
Effective collaboration starts with developing teacher leaders, relationships and structures to support adult learning. This can be an even more challenging endeavor given current limitations on being able to bring groups together. Participants will reflect on current collaborative structures and explore how to create and maintain a high functioning environment for professional learning when shifting from in person experiences to virtual settings. Building on CSTP’s Teacher Leadership Framework’s sections, Working with Adult Learners, Collaboration, and Communication participants will delve into this work to impact culture, risk-taking and student learning. Maximize this experience by attending with a team of teacher leaders and/or administrators. Come ready to share experiences, questions and dilemmas to practice networking with each other.
