Worship In Person Resumes on June 7
|
We will resume in-person services with appropriate controls in place on Trinity Sunday, June 7. The services will be said Morning Prayer at 8:00 a.m. and Choral Morning Prayer, or Matins, at 10:00 a.m. The 10:00 a.m. service will be streamed on Facebook. We will continue to offer services of Morning Prayer on Sundays until it is safe to resume the distribution of Communion.
Safe distancing procedures will be in place for entering, seating, and exiting. Safe distancing in seating results in a maximum capacity of 100 people at each service. Face coverings are highly recommended, not only for your safety, but for the safety of others. While all will be welcomed, we recommend that those parishioners over age 65 and those with underlying health conditions consider remaining safe at home and participating comfortably in the streamed service.
Sunday School for children will continue to be conducted virtually. For information on how to participate, please contact Ayana Grady at
agrady@stjohnstampa.org
. The nursery will remain closed.
More information on procedures we are implementing to ensure a safe worship experience for all will be forthcoming.

Cornerstone Kids Graduate!
|
Even though the schools have been closed due to the pandemic, there are four students that have worked hard and are worthy of recognition. Pictured below are Shamara and Cortayveous who have graduated from Academy Preparatory Center of Tampa. They qualified to attend the nationally accredited nonprofit middle school back when they were enrolled as fourth graders at Cornerstone. In the fall they both plan to attend Cristo Rey Tampa Salesian High School, a college-preparatory, Catholic institution.
In addition, two fifth graders have graduated from the after school program in Tampa Heights: Za'Yonna and Harvis. I was thrilled to hear Za'Yonna give a speech reflecting on her years at Cornerstone at the Lincoln-Douglass Ball back in February. I had the pleasure of working with her as well as six of her older siblings over many years. Once again, St. John's was pleased to award these new graduates with $25 Wal-Mart gift cards for their achievement.

Exploring Love INC Volunteer Opportunities
|
St John's is one of 14 partner churches of Love INC of Metro Tampa, an organization dedicated to connecting neighbors in need with churches and community organizations that can meet those needs. If you are interested in exploring the possibility of becoming a Love INC volunteer, you are invited to participate in a 7-week online study of the principles of Redemptive Compassion (http://redemptivecompassion.org/wp/), an approach to helping others that is transformational rather than just transactional. The study group, led by Love INC Executive Director Ann Doyle, will meet on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. beginning July 1; a free study guide will be provided. Space is limited. If you are interested, RSVP by July 17 to: Ann M. Doyle at adoyle@loveinctampa.org or 541.7366, or contact Deacon Kathleen at 785.9400 for more information. |
