Christmas Eve WS.jpg

Dear Alison,

Are you ready for Christmas Eve? I’m almost there! The worship services are planned; the volunteers and staff are in place; and the music, the candles, and the communion kits are prepared. We are just counting down to the first Christmas Eve service at 4:00pm on Friday.

And in the midst of all that anticipation is an awareness that the latest COVID variant, omicron, is causing a significant uptick in the number of positive cases in our area. The good news? Those who have been vaccinated have less severe symptoms and hospitalizations. But we know there are still folks in our community who are vulnerable because of lack of immunity.

The CDC continues to recommend wearing a mask in public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high community transmission, regardless of vaccination status. In response, FUMC Allen's staff and leadership have determined that to care for those who are vulnerable, we are going to encourage and welcome the wearing of masks for the three indoor Christmas Eve sanctuary services at 4:00pm, 6:00pm, and 11:00pm. Staff and worship leaders will wear masks, except when leading from the chancel. And if you forget yours, we will have them available at the building entrances.

If you have any concerns about being in an enclosed space, we will live stream the 6:00pm service on our Facebook page and our YouTube channel. At Christmas in the Courtyard, our 8:00pm outdoor service, we will worship under the stars on what is forecast to be a beautiful (and warm) evening.

I look forward to being with you and celebrating the Incarnation on Christmas Eve.

Grateful.
