SUSTAINABLE RC

In 1970, the first #EarthDay was celebrated across the country. In 2021, we are celebrating with just as much passion and excitement for saving the Earth and fighting climate change. If everyone in California makes an effort to save energy, it will have a huge impact. Join the movement today! #KeepItGolden #HealthyRC #SustainableRC
MENTAL FLEX

Resilience refers to how well you can deal with and bounce back from the difficulties of life. It can mean the difference between handling pressure and losing your cool. Resilient people tend to maintain a more positive outlook and cope with stress more effectively. Remember, resilience is a lifelong practice. Building it, shaping it, and accessing it, all take practice, bravery, and time.

RC Public Art Survey
Where would you like to see public art in our city? How do you envision the arts becoming a core part of our community? Have the arts improved or transformed your life? These questions are at the heart of the City of Rancho Cucamonga’s new Public Art survey.

The City of Rancho Cucamonga is developing its first Public Art & Placemaking Plan, and we need your input! Please take our survey by clicking here and share your thoughts on how we can incorporate art into neighborhoods, streetscapes, parks, and more. Survey participants are eligible to enter and win a raffle!

For more information, please visit www.cityofrc.us/PublicArt or click on the button below.
What time would you visit the Library? Rancho Cucamonga Public Library needs your feedback! Click the link below to complete the brief survey. We look forward to hearing from you!
Accessibility Needs Questionnaire
The City of Rancho Cucamonga is currently in the process of updating its Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan. ADA Transition Plans help Cities assess barriers to accessibility, describe how to remove them and provides a prioritization of barrier removal that can be reasonably implemented within the time frame specified in the Plan. Barriers can include things that are physical in nature, such as a lack of available ramps to access a building’s entrance, or they can be related to participation, like the inability to provide meeting materials in Braille.

This Plan will be completed in three phases, the first focusing on City owned and operated buildings, the second focusing on parks and the third focusing on our sidewalk network. The Plan will take about two years to complete.

While formal assessments of our buildings, parks, and sidewalk networks will be conducted by ADA Site Assessment Professionals, we would also like to know about your experience with potential barriers and how they affect you and your ability to use our facilities.

We value your opinions and thank you for taking the time to provide us with this very important feedback.

Healthy RC hosts its 3rd Annual Teen Summit
On March 24, 2021, Healthy RC hosted its 3rd Annual Teen Summit, a free virtual event that reached and helped empower over 70 high school teens through this year’s theme BUILD: Build your best self, Build resiliency, Build community, Build your future. Healthy RC Youth Leaders, Vishal Kunam and Natalie Masachi, both 12th graders at Rancho Cucamonga High School, co-hosted the event. Brenda Sarai Zuniga, a mindfulness coach, NAMI-certified speaker, and this year's keynote speaker, shared her resilience story about overcoming obstacles and breaking the stigma on mental health by seeking appropriate resources and tools.

Sponsored by IEHP and Kaiser Permanente, participants were able to attend a variety of wellness sessions, which highlighted coping skills to destress such as dance, fitness, meditation, intuitive art, yoga, and a meet and greet with Brenda. The event also created a safe space for vulnerability and courage through discussions about intersectional identities, creating boundaries, focusing on yourself, and coping with life’s toughest challenges in our #RepresentationMatters panel. We had four amazing panelists including Jaymie Leslie, an RC Public Art Committee member, artist, and Los Osos alum; Mokham Singh, infectious disease researcher and prospective medical student; Kate Mower, archeologist and LGBTQ+ advocate; and Dr. Diamreyan Ochuko, a medical doctor and Etiwanda High alum. The teens enjoyed the raw and real conversations they shared about healing and coping skills, as one teen shared, “I found the meditation and the panelists most useful today because I felt a certain relaxation when I was able to identify the situation I was going through with my family when Kate was speaking... You often find that the ones that love you the most, also hurt you the most. I loved the meditation part too because I had a stressful morning, and this really helped me to destress.”

The BUILD Teen Summit event also incorporated a Community Leadership Discussion that provided teens a venue to have a meaningful dialogue about their concerns and priorities with multi-sector organizations ranging from healthcare, government, police, fire district, business, non-profit, and education. Teens addressed a variety of topics including social media impacts, mental health, safety concerns, a need for more safe spaces for teens, and improving access to services and resources. Many teens expressed that they felt supported and heard through this event, especially during a time when they have felt very disconnected with their peers. It was truly a remarkable youth-led event that further amplified the voices of our teen community!
