Traffic fatalities in the WAMPO region have been rising for the past decade and that trend has only accelerated. There were an average of 58.6 fatalities per year from 2014 to 2018 (the most recent time period for which we have data). This is above our target of no more than 54 fatalities per year.
Serious injuries are thankfully still trending downward, however, from 2014 to 2018 there were 146.8 serious injuries per year. This represents a drop of more than 10% from the 2013 - 2017 period, though it's slightly higher than our target of no more than 138 serious injuries.
Fatalities and serious injuries among bicyclists and pedestrians seem to be leveling off in recent years. There were 27.8 fatalities and serious injuries per year from 2014 to 2018, well below the target of no more than 35 per year.
