Four Churches Certified as Earth Care Congregations
Congratulations to the four Presbytery of the James churches who have been certified as 2021 Earth Care Congregations by the Presbyterian Hunger Program. They are Bon Air Church, Madison Church, Second Church in Richmond, and Westminster Church in Charlottesville.

The certification recognizes churches that take seriously God’s charge to “till and keep” the garden. These congregations have integrated a variety of environmental practices and thinking into their worship, education, facilities, and outreach.
Get Ready for Legacy Giving Sunday
May 2 is Legacy Giving Sunday. Invite the faithful to consider making a bequest gift to continue the ministry of the Church into the future.

The Presbyterian Foundation has numerous publications and videos to support you in sharing this opportunity with your congregation on May 2 and throughout the year.

Another resources is a webinar on planned giving offered by Union Presbyterian Seminary. On May 4 at 2:00 p.m., learn about this kind of giving, generally, and how gifts prepared today make an impactful change tomorrow. As part of the 2021 Sprunt Lectures, this event is free and open to the public; registration is required.
Theological Education Topic for 2021 Sprunt Lectures
The speaker for Union Seminary's 2021 Sprunt series is Rev. Ted A. Smith, professor of preaching and ethics for the Candler School of Theology of Emory University. The theme of his lectures is “No Longer Shall They Teach One Another: The End of Theological Education.” The lectures will be presented virtually May 3-5.
Offer Your Services for Pulpit Supply
Ministers or ministry candidates are needed for POJ’s pulpit supply list. Pastors and sessions rely on this list to fill temporary preaching vacancies year round, but the greatest need is during summer. If you’d like to be added to the pulpit supply list, even on a temporary basis, email Kelley Hope.
