Your water bucket. You are not making a pot of soup, but a gallon water bucket means you won't need to change your dirty water bucket so often. For me, I have several gallon-sized water buckets ready, by my side.
One problem… When they sit on my painting table, I need to lift the brush up and over - and THEN into the bucket of water. This awkward movement is too much exercise - and it takes me out of my flow!
Solution… I either position the top of the bucket at the same level as the top of my painting table, so I can easily move side to side without the gymnastics of excess arm movement. It goes without saying, if you are right-handed, place the bucket on the right side of your painting table, etc.
A second solution is a gallon-sized water bucket with a lower profile, not the usual high sides. I use a low Tupperware-style plastic container. It holds the same amount of water, has a wide opening - it won't fall over and I don't need to aim for a small cup of water! My rhythm of painting doesn't slow down.
You may even discover, with an abundance of water, you'll be painting with larger brushes and a lot looser.
I am often asked about how I dispose of dirty water. My studio is on farm land, on a gray water system. All water, including laundry is drained in the pasture. Everyone has their own dirty water disposal solution. One of my favorite solutions involves pantyhose - or cheesecloth. Watch the video - I tell you all about it!
So, a large bucket for making soup remains in your kitchen. The other large bucket stays by your side in the studio! Clean your brushes well - with a brush cleaner, such as The Masters Brush Cleaner. Other options are Murphys Oil Soap, CitraSolv or even dish soap!
