Celebrating Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Image of the city of los angeles
At LADWP, we prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion, both in the workplace and in our community. As a result, under Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Executive Directive, we have taken concrete actions to further promote racial and social equity. This includes establishing the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the recent launch of the LA100 Equity Strategies study, ensuring that all Angelenos benefit from a just transition to 100% renewable energy. We strive to promote an environment that recognizes and addresses systemic inequities and will continue to do so. We're also delivering on our mission to provide clean, reliable water and power sustainably and cost-effectively to all our customers and communities.
Los Angeles Board of Water and Power Commissioners Leads on Equity
Following the release of the LA100 study back in March, the Board of Water and Power Commissioners approved a new phase entitled LA100 Equity Strategies, designed to incorporate research and analysis to achieve specific, community-driven, and equitable outcomes from the clean energy transition. This next step is one of many we are undertaking to ensure that all communities share in the benefits of a clean energy future.
Welcome LADWP's First-Ever Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer
As part of the ongoing initiatives to advance diversity and equity, Monique Earl has been named the first-ever Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Earl will be responsible for the oversight of policies, practices and programs designed to improve diversity and opportunities throughout LADWP and position the agency to better serve communities with the highest needs. As a Senior Assistant General Manager, Earl will also work to provide leadership, guidance and support in the internal and external development and implementation of the department’s Racial Equity Action Initiatives.
2020 Water Quality Drinking Report is Now Available!
We supplied an average of 436 million gallons of water per day to over 4 million customers in 2020. The city’s water met and surpassed federal and state drinking water standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the State of California, Water Resources Control Board – Division of Drinking Water. We're committed to protecting water quality daily to ensure that clean, safe drinking water is delivered to your homes and businesses.
Keep Mylar Balloons Away from Power Lines
As L.A. slowly starts to open up, there are lots more opportunities to celebrate. This is a reminder to our customers that Mylar balloons can cause power outages and pose a public safety risk. If you see a Mylar balloon that has contacted a power line, keep yourself, your equipment, and all other items and people, at least 20 feet away. Always assume the power lines are energized. Report it by calling 1-800-DIAL-DWP.
Beware! Protect Yourself from Scams
We continue to receive reports of scammers representing themselves as LADWP employees, threatening to shut off water and power service if they do not receive payment immediately over the phone. We want our customers to know, we DO NOT request payment of any kind over the phone. The only way to make a bill payment over the telephone is by accessing our automated payment system and following the recorded prompts. If you suspect something isn’t right on the other end of the line, hang up the phone and dial 1-800-DIAL-DWP (1-800-342-5397).

Essential Work Continues
As we continue to deliver on our commitment to provide reliable power to the residents of Los Angeles, our linemen often work in remote areas and deal with difficult terrain. Recently, crews replaced a new conductor on old power plant lines in San Francisquito Canyon.
