PARKS & RECREATION ROUNDUP
NOVEMBER 3, 2020
Welcome to the Parks & Recreation Roundup, a bi-monthly publication aimed at
keeping the community informed on our programs, events, and partnerships
DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS
Yampa River Reopens
The commercial and voluntary closures on the Yampa River were lifted at the end of October. Given the recent snow and cooler temperatures, river flows are projected to continue increasing to acceptable levels. Over the past few months, the river flows consistently ranged below 50% of average due to continued drought conditions across the region, which prompted the initial river closure this past summer/fall.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHTS
VF Foundation Gifts $1.5M
The City of Steamboat Springs, along with Howelsen Hill Ski Area, want to express thanks and gratitude to the VF Foundation and our partners at the Winter Sports Club for their generous donation and efforts in support of the Barrows Chairlift project. This generous $1.5M donation, along with the $2.15M contributed by the city, will help fund the replacement of the old two-person lift with a new fixed-grip triple chairlift.
Pumpkins for Piggies
Don't let your old pumpkins end up in the landfill, put them to use as animal feed and compost! Drop off your expired pumpkins at the Howelsen Hill Rodeo Grounds this Wednesday (11/4) from 4 PM to 6 PM. All pumpkins will be accepted for free until the farmer's trucks are full (limit 2 pumpkins per household). Innovative Regeneration Colorado will be accepting all additional pumpkins to be composted for $5.
