Parents and Guardians,
I hope you and your student had a great Homecoming Week. The LHS Student Council did an outstanding job of organizing all of the week's events and making sure they ran smoothly. Despite all the challenges to our “normal” activities, crowning our King and Queen and the fireworks show on Friday night were a lot of fun and I hope great memories for our students.
Today and tomorrow our teachers are engaging in professional development activities across the district. We know this is an important part of growing as educators and improving the educational experience of our students.
As we grow and adapt in serving students in a face to face and virtual environment, we are continuing to make adjustments to some of our protocols and practices. One of those areas is Assessment. To create and maintain some expectations across our campus to ensure that there is equity between virtual and on-campus students during testing, LHS is implementing the following expectations beginning this week. These basic expectations are for each classroom and teachers will also be using other practices specific to a course to help ensure equity.
- Virtual students who are testing via zoom must have their cameras and microphones on unless specifically excused by their teacher.
- Any resource that one group of students has access to should also be accessible for the other. This includes the amount of time allowed for testing as well as any access to notes, computers, etc….
- If virtual students are asked to record a video as part of their assessment (something they could edit or redo before submitting), kids who are in class should have the same opportunity.
Please take a few minutes to read through the information below and have a great week!
Sincerely,
Chris Mayfield
Principal

The LISD Covid Cases dashboard includes active cases of both on-campus students/staff and virtual students/staff. If a student /staff member is participating virtually and/or has NOT come to campus for any class or activity, the dashboard will include the case, but the campus will NOT notify parents or staff.

Please pay close attention to how your child is feeling as we enter the allergy/cold/ and flu season. We have seen several positive Covid-19 cases presenting with only allergy symptoms. Covid-19 and strep throat have also appeared together.
When symptomatic, it is best to stay home and attend virtual school. Below is an example of how easily Covid-19 spreads.

ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) Test
Thursday, December 3rd
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery measures your student's knowledge and ability in ten different areas. It is not an IQ test, but the ASVAB does help the US Military assess which jobs they are best suited to perform.
Taking this test does not commit students to the military and this is the only planned test administration this year.
For any other questions, you can contact your student's counselor.

The 7th Annual Lovejoy Letter Campaign
|
|
Lovejoy Family!! The 7th annual Lovejoy Letter Campaign for teachers and staff members has begun! Many of you are familiar with this beloved tradition, but for those of you who are not, it is the time of year when we write appreciation letters for each of our teachers and staff members across the district.
The letters do not have to be elaborate or lengthy. The goal is just for people to write a note of thanks to show appreciation to their teachers, the staff and administration in our district. It is the opportunity for us to take the time to let each person who makes a difference for us throughout the school day know how much we value them.
Please clearly label the envelope with the staff/teacher’s name and LLC (Lovejoy Letter Campaign) and return the letter to the box located at specified location of each campus no later than Friday November 13th. Please feel free to share this message as we spread the word about the campaign. We do not want to add any extra burden to our kids and parents, but we do want to share how much we appreciate our teachers and staff - especially this year in these very unusual times!
