Hello, Secondary families!

We are so thrilled to welcome our students back for the new school year! The last three days have been filled with fun, getting to know each other, and building relationships with new and returning students and staff. The Secondary department this year has many new staff, and I look forward to all of you getting to meet and work with all of them this year.

I want to share a little bit of what our focus has been this week at school. We want to make sure students feel settled and comfortable. We have been focused on building relationships and building community within each classroom, with the middle school and high school, within the overall Secondary department, and within the entire TLC community.

Wednesday was our first day of school, and we had several different activities for the middle school, the high school, and a schoolwide assembly. Students and staff showed a lot of spirit, enthusiasm, and energy!
Today, middle school and high school each had a Community Day with different events and activities all day long designed to build community, connection, and develop our shared idea of what our community will look like this year. I hope to have pictures to share with you soon.
We look forward to working with all students, families, and staff, to maintain a strong sense of community and relationships.

If families and students still have questions about their schedules, or details about school, please reach out to your following teacher. You are also welcome to contact myself, Kevin Cronin, or Elizabeth Slate, the leaders in the Secondary department.

Have a wonderful long weekend! We look forward to seeing students back next week.

A Message from PE Teacher Justin Carrus:
My name is Justin Carrus and I'm the TLC physical education teacher. I'm really excited about the new school year!

I'm here to share what kind of materials your child needs to bring for the class. They will need to bring a water bottle. They can fill the water bottle in the cafeteria during the class. They also need to have proper attire such as shirts/long sleeve shirts, shorts, sweatpants, and sneakers (not nice/fancy shoes or boots due to their safety and to protect the gym floor). It is important to have something comfortable to wear (range of motion). Your child can change their attire at school before the class and after the class in the locker room.

That is it for now. I will share more updates about our physical education program throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns then feel free to contact me through jcarrus@tlcdeaf.org. Have a great year!
