One of the things I admire most about Heilicher ...
We are excited to welcome Sammie Danovsky to Heilicher this year as a first grade teacher. Below, Sammie shares her reflections on what she admires most about Heilicher.
"One of the things I admire most about Heilicher is the dedication to supporting students through their development. I am so impressed to see how inspired the students are to grow and learn. The staff has fostered a culture of academic growth that allows each student to truly feel passionate about their learning. Staff makes sure that students are actively participating in their education by encouraging them to thoughtfully reflect with, and ask questions of, those around them. The Heilicher community is also committed to helping all students develop their values, ethics, and belief systems. All students are introduced to Heilicher's core values and academic pillars which are used to help them connect their everyday experiences at school to their broader understanding of the world around them.
This attentiveness to both students' academic and moral development is what builds such a strong foundation at this school. Students understand the importance of education and are able to balance it with their moral obligation to create a better world. These are the tools that students will be able to take with them when they leave Heilicher."

IMPORTANT! Upcoming Calendar Changes
We have made a few changes to the Heilicher school schedule between now and the end of the 2020 calendar year.
First, there will be NO SCHOOL the full week of Thanksgiving. Monday and Tuesday, November 23 and 24, had previously been scheduled as in-school learning days.
Second, the week of December 7-11 will now be an in-person learning week. That week had previously been designated for all-school distance learning.
We will make these updates on the school calendar, as well. Thank you for your flexibility.

Lifetouch Picture Day is next Thursday, November 5. Pictures will be taken in the Manny Fingerhut Auditorium.
We will ask that students briefly remove their masks only for the photo. Lifetouch will be following strict social distancing measures, with photographers wearing masks and sanitizing.
Please make sure to order your pictures online prior to picture day using Picture Day ID: EVT9CK8JH. There are no paper forms this year.
*For in-person Grade 8 students - school pictures will be taken on the make-up day. Details to follow.
TDLP Students: If a TDLP student would like to come in for picture day please sign up for a time slot. We have arranged for TDLP students to enter through the main entrance of the JCC and walk straight to the auditorium where pictures will be taken. Alternatively, if you prefer not to enter the building, you may send in a "head shot" of your child for the yearbook to Ali Berdass .

Recommendations from the Heilicher Health and Safety Committee
The Heilicher Health and Safety Committee recommends that all students, families, teachers and staff get the flu vaccine.
Covid-19 is not the same as Influenza. Symptoms are similar but there is a way to prevent and treat influenza. Get vaccinated, wash your hands, wear a mask and social distance. Flu is treatable with antiviral medications.

Required: DAILY Home Wellness Check
It is critical that all families fill out the Home Wellness Check for each of their children in Sycamore before coming to school each day. This check asks about many possible symptoms of COVID-19, including but not limited to fever. To ensure the health and safety of our community, we need 100% participation in completing this form reliably each morning.

Give to the Heilicher Annual Fund!
The Annual Fund is a critical piece of keeping Heilicher strong and vibrant. The dollars raised help make up the difference between tuition and the full cost of a Heilicher education, and support programs and initiatives throughout the school!
Our Annual Fund this year is being chaired by Heilicher parents Michael Zis and Deb Olkon. Our goal is to raise over $400,000 this year in the Annual Fund with100% parent participation. To date, we already have raised over $335,000 for the Annual Fund from over 60 generous parent, grandparent, alumni parent, and community donors.
There are many ways to make your pledge or gift. You may give online through the Heilicher website, or mail in a response to the letter you have recently received. We offer options for incremental payment as well as periodic invoicing. We strive to make giving to Heilicher easy for you! Starting this Sunday, November 1, you will also have the opportunity to make your donation through GiveMN.org. Give to the Max Day is Thursday, November 19, and Heilicher may qualify for incentives for any donations made through the GiveMN website from November 1 through that date. TDLP Sign up Deadline is TOMORROW, October 30!
Enrollment for Session 2 (November 16 - January 22) of the Total Distance Learning Program (TDLP) is now open! All families currently enrolled in TDLP, and families who would like to enroll in TDLP for the first time, must complete the following form in order to officially opt-in.
In order to ensure your student's enrollment in TDLP for Minimesters 3 and 4, you must complete the form by the beginning of Shabbat on Friday, October 30. Any families who have not completed this form by October 30 will be automatically enrolled in in-person learning at Heilicher. Students may not opt-in OR opt-out of TDLP outside of the enrollment deadline.

Inclement Weather Communications
Winter is coming ...
This is not only a phrase from a popular TV show, it's our reality here in Minnesota. Please take a moment to review our communications plan in the event of a school closing, delay, or early dismissal due to inclement weather. Decision Process No single consideration will be the deciding factor to delay or close school. (e.g., if St. Louis Park schools are closed, we may still open our doors). We consider several factors in the decision, including: - status of St. Louis Park schools
- hazardous travel conditions
- status of the Barry Family Campus
- status of other local independent schools
Notification In the event of a school closing, delayed opening, or early dismissal, you will be informed via: - email
- Heilicher Facebook post
- phone call(s) from our automated system
- posting on local news stations and websites
If nothing is posted, school is running on schedule. Barring a state or federal government decision days in advance, we will inform you by 6:15 a.m. the day of the inclement weather. We want to have the best, most up-to-date information before making a decision. In the unlikely event of early dismissal due to inclement weather, we will call and email as soon as possible to make pickup arrangements and will also call emergency contacts in the event a parent cannot be reached. The office will remain open until the last student is picked up.
When school is closed for a day due to heavy snow, we will, in all likelihood, not offer distance learning that day.
The safety of your children and our staff and teachers is our primary focus when making decisions. Even if school is open, assess the weather conditions in your area and always use your discretion when deciding to travel.
