About AHA!
Founded in 2005, AHA! is a disability rights advocacy organization that recognizes that the scarcity of housing is a critical issue for people with disabilities. Its mission is to provide affordable, accessible, integrated housing for low-income people with disabilities.
The organization serves a diverse range of Austinites with physical and mental disabilities, including adults and children, and it is the only housing non-profit in Austin led by members of the disability community.
AHA! owns and operates single-family homes that provide safe, decent, and affordable housing for residents and allow them to live with independence and dignity. The homes feature ramps, wide doorways, roll-under sinks, lowered counter-tops, roll-in showers and other modifications to meet accessibility needs.
AHA's Partnership with TSAHC
In 2010, we entered into a partnership with AHA! through our ACT program in which they rehabilitated and leased out seven previously foreclosed homes. After a successful period of AHA! managing the inventory of homes, we eventually donated all seven to the organization to expand their availability of single-family homes available for people with disabilities.
The organization's most ambitious project to date is AHA! at Briarcliff, a 27-unit apartment complex that will be accessible, affordable, and integrated into an established neighborhood that is close to services, transit, and amenities. The one and two-bedroom apartments will serve households at or below 50% of the median family income.
