OYO Fans:
It's been a tumultuous few weeks -- globally, nationally, in our communities and even for our baseball and softball organization. The uncertainty of COVID-19's long-term impact weighs heavy. Monitoring the headlines and adapting our Spring Season plans has become a daily exercise, and one almost as complicated as building a gameday lineup.
Rest assured, our hearts go out to anyone who has been impacted by this virus, either directly and indirectly. With much sadness, we share we've lost two members of the OYO community -- one of our veteran umpires as well as a grandfather to one of our ballplayers -- to this horrible virus. That said, we're inspired by the selfless healthcare workers on the front lines around our community and their relentless efforts to care for those most in need during this health crisis. And, we find comfort in knowing some of those very frontline workers once shared the fields at Veterans Memorial Park as former OYO ballplayers and coaches.
Our team of volunteer board members have been closely monitoring the pandemic as it continues to unfold. Given the recent annoucements from our local leaders and medical experts to cancel classes for the year and renew stay-at-home orders until at least May 1, we have adjusted our rolling calendar for the upcoming season accordingly leaving us with three possible scenarios. We will honor and follow all social distancing guidelines and recommendations.
As we shared before, like each of you, our OYO volunteers are parents of children facing new challenges of social distancing, coaches longing to be around the ballplayers and simply individuals dealing with prolonged separation from the communities they truly value and appreciate. These interactions provided timely meaning and purpose in each of our lives in different ways, and we understand OYO is an outlet for your ballplayer (and you) to play ball, have fun and make friends. These are not just experiences for your ballplayers, they were memories experiences enjoyed by your entire family. And we’re determined to ensure they still happen safely in 2020!
