To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of famous Italian writer and dramatist Dino Buzzati, Villa Charities and Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Toronto, in partnership with Ponte tra Culture Society, presents “Stories, Strange Stories” (“Storie, strane storie”). This 5-week intensive theatre program, led by Italian theatre actor and director, Gianluca Barbadori, invites individuals of any age, nationality and experience level to come together, connecting through the Italian language and dramatic theatre for a unique social experience featuring ‘strange’ spaces and ‘strange’ stories. 

 

Everyone is welcome! No previous theatrical experience required. Open to professionals or amateurs, and no knowledge of the Italian language is necessary.

Information & Orientation Session (Virtual)

Saturday, September 17, 10:00am

Attendance required for only one orientation session prior to registration for the 5-week program.

 

Theatre Classes

September 19 – October 22, 2022

6:30 – 9:30pm

Program requirement is 20 in-person classes and rehearsals. Participants must register for their theatre classes by September 23, 2022.

 

Final Performance

October 22 and 23, 2022

Participants must be available for both dates.

Cultural Tuesdays: Join Us on September 6 for “Eroine Italiane”

Cultural Tuesdays return on Tuesday, September 6! In collaboration with Opera Sustenida, join us for a special concert showcasing our favourite operatic heroines from beloved Italian operas and beyond! The ensemble features the talents of Canadian musicians Stephanie DeCiantis (spinto soprano), Nicole Whitney Dubinsky (coloratura soprano), Daniella Theresia (mezzo-soprano), and Suzanne Yeo (pianist).

“Mary Magdalene Resurrected” Coming to the Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery

You are cordially invited to the opening night reception for the exhibition, “Mary Magdalene Resurrected”. This mosaic series is created by Lilian Broca, who explores the figure Mary Magdalene and the stories which have painted her as a woman in desperate need of salvation.

 

Hear Broca’s thoughts about Mary Madgalene at the opening reception on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at 7:00pm. This exhibition is curated by Dr. Angela Clarke and runs to October 20 at the Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery.
