JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
Opens September 10, 2021
FCT's production of Jesus Christ Superstar has had many changes to performance dates, however, is now scheduled to open on September 10, 2021. Current ticket holders from the postponed shows in 2020 will be notified first for ticket options. Tickets for the general public will go on sale July 20 at www.FCTstage.org. Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera based on the last week of Jesus’ life. Lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage, Jesus Christ Superstar has wowed audiences for over 40 years. A timeless work, the rock opera is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Superstar follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers and the Roman Empire. The iconic 1970s rock score contains such well-known numbers as “Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Gethsemane.” FCT's production is directed by Matt Moore and produced by Mary Beth Balint. FCT's Performing Arts Scholarship in memory of Richard and Natalie Thompson has been awarded to Julia Downes. Julia appeared in almost a dozen shows at FCT, including As You Like It as Phoebe/Le Beau and as Fiona in Shrek, The Musical. Julia remarked, "I love every single part of theater from acting to singing to dancing to directing to working on the creation of the props and set. I hope to become a professional actress one day, but more than that, I hope to perform shows that make people think about difficult issues, that make people feel deeply about something, that put a spotlight on the underserved or under represented in our culture." Julia is certain to have an impact in similar ways as the Thompsons, as she combines her passion of theater and community.
