Massachusetts activists made their voices heard but there's still more to do
Over 225 citizens, business leaders, and elected officials from across the state packed a Beacon Hill hearing room last Tuesday, January 14, in Massachusetts to show their support for legislation to put a price on carbon pollution. The hearing was held by the co-chairs of the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy (TUE), Senate Assistant Majority Leader Michael Barrett and Representative Thomas Golden. For almost three hours the hearing was standing room only, with some 70 additional people left outside.

The Town of Brookline took a bold step towards curbing carbon emissions when its Town Meeting members recently voted to ban fossil fuel combustion in new construction and gut renovations. While Brookline is the first municipality on the East Coast to adopt such a measure, similar initiatives are gaining momentum in other Massachusetts communities, and design and development professionals are demonstrating that such regulations are possible and practical with energy efficient, all-electric buildings. Join the Boston Society for Architecture, Green Ribbon Commission and Massachusetts Climate Action Network for a half-day forum to learn how Brookline petitioners “got to yes” on this ground-breaking initiative.

Provincetown considers climate change committee
Select Board seeks info on possible composition, responsibilities of new board
PROVINCETOWN
—
Climate change is one of the biggest concerns on the Cape's tip, and the town is pondering formation of a group to make sure it can keep Provincetown afloat. "I know when we talk about creating another committee it becomes an issue because we have so many," Select Board member Lise King said. "My recommendation, however, is we strongly consider the creation of a climate action committee because of the urgent nature of the conversation."
