Rail Trail Artist Projects Coming to September Artwalk
Mark your calendar for September 3rd! During September's downtown Artwalk, all of our wonderful Rail Trail Time Travel artists will present the projects they've been working on. You will have the chance to engage in their "time travel engagement stations" which will consist of creative placeknowing activities that anyone of any age can perform. From that community feedback, the artists will then develop a final rendering, proposal, or other artistic expression of ideas for artistic enhancement and/or cultural programming along the Innovation Rail Trail.
Also make sure you are following Public Art on Instagram and Facebook to see all of our Artist Spotlights to learn more about each of the artists!

New Exhibition at South Broadway Cultural Center
The latest community art exhibition at South Broadway Cultural Center explores artists’ enduring need to tell stories: whether they are a personal narrative, dreamscape, or myth.
Stories via inner landscapes that use a multitude of artistic devices, personal and peculiar stories using both paint and photography, and nonlinear stories that are fantastical memories via mixed media are what bring these three artists together.
Thereby Hangs a Tale features work by Susan J. Zimmerman, Holly Roberts, and Cindy Dominguez and is on view until mid September.

Call to Artists: Indian Pueblo Cultural Center Public Art
The Albuquerque Community Foundation ("ACF") is partnering with the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center (“IPCC”) to commission or purchase a permanent public art piece by a Native American artist and/or artist team from New Mexico. The public art piece will be located near the traffic circle at Menaul Blvd NW and 12th Ave NW.
The Art Selection Committee (“Committee”) for the project, led by IPCC staff, includes a member from the Near North Valley Neighborhood Association, an ACF staff member, and a member from the City of Albuquerque Arts Board. The Committee seeks proposals for primary artwork to be placed in the center of the roundabout and should attempt to relate to the themes present in the streetscape and surrounding areas.
The design of the sculpture should be appropriate for the site’s culture and history as a gateway to the North Valley and to the 19 Pueblos. Non-figurative themes and styles are encouraged. Quality of design and craftsmanship are of utmost importance for the site. The Committee will offer a stipend for preliminary design concepts from a set of five finalists. Stipend funds of $500 per selected finalist are available.
All materials should be submitted directly to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center via email to roundaboutart@indianpueblo.org or arrive physically in portable digital format (i.e. on CD or other device) mailed or delivered, to Indian Pueblo Cultural Center offices, Attn: Amy Johnson, Curator of Collections, by Tuesday, August 31 at 5:00pm, local time. Late and/or incomplete submissions will not be considered. Mailing address is: 2401 12th Street NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87104. Questions may be directed to Amy Johnson, Curator of Collections at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center via email at roundaboutart@indianpueblo.org.

Lost and Found: Art & Stories from the Pandemic
As we continue to weather the COVID-19 pandemic and mourn the things we lost along the way, we are asking our community to come together in new yet familiar ways.
Nine Albuquerque artists have contributed designs to an installation of white flags that will live on Civic Plaza for two weeks as a contemplative open air space for us all to visit and reflect.
The installation will also be activated by "attendants" that will invite you to share a story about something you lost or found over the course of the past 550 days. Groups can make an appointment with an attendant at the installation to collect your story, and there will be Open Hours for individuals to visit and give their memory.
We invite you to join us for this special event!
Please reach out to dianadelgado@cabq.gov to schedule your group appointment today.
A press conference with Mayor Keller on August 31st, at 9:30 am will kick off these series of activations.
