PTSA NEWS
Dear International School Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 academic year.

My name is Azfar Moazzam, and I am the interim president for the International School (IS) PTSA for the 2020-2021 academic year. We have two children at International School in grades 9th and 11th, and this is our 4th year at International School.

Whether you are a new or returning IS family, you know how special a place we have at International School. While this is continuing to be a challenging year, we are fortunate to have an awesome community of teachers, staff, parents, and students that is coming together to make the best of our current situation.

As you get ready for the school year, I would like to remind you of the resources that you have at your disposal. With COVID-19 and remote learning, you will likely find these resources to be of great use in order to stay connected with the virtual happenings at the school. Despite the challenges, we are committed to finding opportunities to engage and enrich IS and our community.

Please stay connected and informed by using all the International School resources, including the school website, the weekly Monday Messenger from ISPTSA, and the ISPTSA website for important dates and information. There are applications from Bellevue School District that you will find useful, such as ParentVue and apParent, which have been invaluable resources for us as parents.

Throughout the academic year, ISPTSA holds and supports events such as the ISPTSA General Assembly meetings, Parent Coffee sessions, Class events, and our Annual Spring Social. Please stay tuned for more information about these events as we plan out their remote formats.

Please join us by becoming a member of ISPTSA and financially supporting these programs and more through your tax-deductible donation during our Fall Fundraiser. You can join ISPTSA and support these programs by filling out the membership form here.

The success of our school and our students depends on your participation in the school activities and the PTSA. We have several important positions open on the ISPTSA board. Please consider sharing your valuable time with us by volunteering for ISPTSA board positions. Please email ec@isptsa.org if you are interested in becoming an ISPTSA board member or leading one of the committees (click here to see the committees).

Contact ec@isptsa.org if you are interested or have questions. Feel free to sign up with with a friend to co-VP or co-Chair.

Welcome again to the 2020-2021 academic year.

DISTRICT NEWS
SCHOOL MEALS DURING REMOTE START

When the Bellevue School District opens the 2020-21 school year in a remote learning model, we want to ensure that students continue to have access to the nutrition they need to succeed. The Meals2Go program, offered by our Nutrition Services team, is designed to provide a grab-and-go breakfast and lunch option for families to access for their students.

Meals will be available for district enrolled students each school day from seven regional locations. Due to a change in federal regulations, Nutrition Services is no longer able to continue the practice of offering free meals to all children. Meals accessed through the Meals2Go program will be charged to a student’s school meal account. Families are encouraged to complete an application for free or reduced-price school meals if they are in need of assistance. The 2020-21 application can be found here.

The Meals2Go program will launch on Wednesday, September 2. Meals picked up on this day are intended for students to enjoy on their first day of school, September 3!

For more information regarding the Meals2Go program, please click here, or contact the Nutrition Services Office at 425-456-4507, nutrition@bsd405.org.

TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT & DEVICES FOR STUDENTS

Student Device Distribution
The BSD Technology Department and schools distributed over 20,000 technology devices for students in the last few weeks. If your student has not picked up their device for learning, devices will be available at Technology Centers following the last scheduled pick-up time at schools. Specific dates, times and locations will be available on the district website next week.

Technology Support for Students and Families
We are pleased to share that BSD is expanding our in-person technology support during remote learning. The BSD Technology Department will provide tech support for student and families at Newport High School and Sammamish High School starting on Monday, August 31. The primary focus at these sites will be on issues that are difficult to resolve via email or phone. More details are available on our website. For tech support and troubleshooting at home, visit our Technology Support for Students and Families page. You will find setup guides, information on Microsoft Teams, login support, common questions and concerns, tips for optimizing your internet connection, and whom to reach out to for more help.

Assistive Technology
Assistive technology is one of the core strategies schools use to support students with learning differences. If you think your student might need help accessing curriculum, please review this list of accessibility tools, and reach out to your student's teacher or support specialist to learn more.
