RESEARCH, PUBLICATIONS & PRESENTATIONS
Matt Tidwell, assistant dean for graduate and professional studies, was quoted in a Forbes.com article on managing crisis situations.

Assistant Professor Hong Vu and Associate Professor Yvonnes Chen will present their research examining what influences people to be susceptible to false information about health at the 2021 International Communication Association Conference. They argue that big tech companies have a responsibility to help prevent the spread of misleading and dangerous information. Read the KU News story.

Associate Professor Genelle Belmas and Assistant Professor Chris Etheridge have been selected as 2021 participants in KU's Public Scholars Group. The public scholars program provides a valuable professional development opportunity for faculty and aims to make more visible beyond academia the relevance and significance of research in today’s world.

Doctoral student Muhammad Ittefaq's co-authored manuscript "Public Engagement Model (PEM) to Analyze Digital Diplomacy on Twitter: A Social Media Analytics Framework" has been accepted for publication in the International Journal of Communication. The study proposed a new model for social media communication by highlighting three key factors that promote online public engagement: self-disclosure, positive attitude and inquisitiveness. He co-authored this work with Assistant Professor Laeeq Khan from Ohio University, United States; Aqdas Malik from Alto University, Finland; Yadira Pantoja from The University of Auckland, New Zealand; and Muhammad Mustafa Raziq from National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan. Muhammad would like to thank Dr. Hyunjin Seo for her feedback on the earlier version of the manuscript.
INSIDE THE SCHOOL
Please welcome two new staff members who started at the J-School earlier this year:
Jessica Brown is the director of finance and planning for the School of Journalism and the School of Law. She received her bachelor’s and master's degrees in accounting from the University of Kansas. She previously worked as a grant officer at the University of Kansas Office of Research before joining the School of Law in 2018 and the School of Journalism in 2021. Prior to working for KU, she was a senior staff auditor in public accounting, working primarily with not-for-profit organizations.
Rachel Ross is the executive assistant to the dean. Previously, she was accounting specialist for five years at the Strong Hall Shared Services Center, where she was the finance contact for the J-School for the past three years. Her husband, Craig, also works at KU as a maintenance supervisor. She is a mother of two and stepmother of one: Allison (17), Jasper (7) and Anna (3). She enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, drawing, painting and martial arts (she is a first-degree black belt with the ATA American Taekwondo Association).
J-School featured in Kansas Alumni magazine
The latest edition of the Kansas Alumni Association's magazine features a story on the J-School's photo exhibit on the second floor of Stauffer-Flint Hall. The gallery of two dozen photos was installed right before the building's grand reopening ceremony in January 2020. Because of the pandemic, few visitors have had a chance to view the photos that showcase the 120-year history of the building, which is one of the oldest on the KU campus. Read the story here.
