One of my Dad’s favorite quotes was one by John Lydgate which goes; “
You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time
.” And oh, how relevant is this now.
Of course, we’re all inundated with information right now. Just when you think you’ve got it figured out you read something new and what you thought was right in fact isn’t. Maybe that’s how it’s always been. Are we just now paying more attention?
If you follow the traditional news sources one could take the position that we are more divided than ever. Red or Blue and nothing in-between will do. Everyone can find a source to substantiate their view.
Right now, Sacramento is alive as your elected State Representatives are in-session. There are at least 2,000+ new bills going through the submission process in both the House and Senate with an average of at least 200+ bills becoming law here in California. I’m looking conservatively when I use these numbers but the reality is we’re regulating more and more and much of this regulation is falling on the backs of small businesses in our State to comply with. Yes, these are the same small businesses all politicians are touting as the backbone of America and must be saved.
It is time to pay attention folks.
Let’s all work together during this challenge and look for ways to support each other. Sometimes that means a little give on one position to move things forward. This means by everyone.
I am reminded of this when I think back to my dad’s favorite quote…the older I get the wiser he becomes.
Thank you all for your continued support of the Chamber and we ask that those of you who haven’t gotten involved with the Chamber to consider doing so now. Be a part of the positive momentum we are creating and building on for the business community of Escondido.
Sincerely,
James Rowten (JR)
