PTA REFLECTIONS ENTRIES DUE FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13

Reflections is a National PTA arts recognition program that helps students explore their own thoughts, feelings, and ideas; develop artistic literacy; increase confidence; and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful not only in school, but in life.

Students in pre-K through grade 12 create original works of art in response to a theme. The theme for the 2020-2021 program year is I Matter Because…

Students submit their completed works of art in one, or all, of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts.

ISPTSA SEEKING GRADE-LEVEL REPRESENTATIVES

If you are interested in getting to know other parents and family members from your child(ren)'s grade level, this is a perfect volunteer opportunity! Grade-Level Representatives plan grade-level parent/guardian social events, organize parents to support staff appreciation, and act as another channel of information in support of ISPTSA. It's a fun and easy way to support the IS community!

STUDENT NEWS & OPPORTUNITIES
YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS ACADEMY

The Bellevue Chamber and the Bellevue School District have partnered over the last several years providing an opportunity for students to consider participating in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy for the middle and high school students in the Bellevue School District. This year, we will begin the virtual class in October and it will run for four weeks. There is an application process and a fee associated with the program. We typically have 15–18 students participate. This year we will run two sessions, one in the fall and one in the spring. Hopefully, we can also have a summer program. The students learn all about the necessary steps to start a business from idea to business plan to pitch to investors. In addition, there is a national competition in the spring for one student to present to national corporate leaders. The applications will be due no later than October 5.

PARENTS, ARE YOU LOOKING FOR FREE CLASSES TAUGHT BY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS?

Hello Everyone, we are Rishi Chilamcharla (Junior at Bellevue High School) and Kaiser Williams (Junior at Bellevue High School), founders of CW Academy.

CW Academy was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic as a platform where children in elementary/middle school can explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and miscellaneous topics through free online courses taught by High School Students. We wanted students to keep learning & find a passion in many popular subjects while they were stuck at home.

So far, we’ve taught over 140 students in less than 90 days. Courses we have taught include introductory python 1, python 2, introductory java, biology, math tutoring, and more. We’ve gotten great feedback from parents and our students!

During the school year, we are going to keep providing free, fun online courses taught by High School students on the weekends. To inform parents about new course offerings and news about CW Academy, we have created a newsletter! When new courses are available, we will email you the newsletter! Click here to be added to our mailing list, or go to www.cwacademybellevue.com for more information!

Follow our Instagram @cwacademyglobal for updates as well!

We hope we can teach and inspire many more children during these unprecedented times!!

Self-Care & Taking in the Good to Combat Stressors during Remote Learning
THIS Wednesday, October 7, 6:30–8:00 PM via Zoom (register below)

How do we help our teens navigate through these unchartered territories, make sure they are safe, and also maintain social interaction which is critical for mental health? How do we make sure their academic needs are being met and set expectations around this without being too overbearing? How do we balance our family time, work life, school life, and social life?

In this virtual 90 minute interactive seminar, Gina Biegel, LMFT, a psychotherapist, researcher, speaker, and author in the San Francisco Bay Area who specializes in mindfulness-based work with adolescents and is the founder of Stressed Teens, will guide us through some practical advice and practice to help us find grace and breathing room as we help our teens do the same.

With Gina’s experience working directly with teens, she will share with us her keen understanding of what our teens need most from us right now and best practices for meeting them where they are in ways that invite calm rather than conflict.
