Dear North Hills School District students, families and staff members,
While we understand the governor’s directive, we are heartbroken. We were hopeful that we would’ve been able to return to the classroom -- even if it were just for one day, to give our students and our teachers the chance to say goodbye.
As we move forward in this new normal, please know that we are committed to supporting our students.
We will continue
virtual learning through May 29, our last scheduled day of the 2019-20 school year. Beyond that, we will look to plan an activity or event to bring closure to the school year for our students, teachers and families.
We are also working on an eventual plan for students to retrieve any items left at school as well as for collecting iPads when it is safe to do so.
Class of 2020
While we’re not sure when, we will hold commencement at Martorelli Stadium to give our seniors the chance to be physically present to celebrate a moment such as graduation. Look for communication about cap and gown distribution, an end-of-the-year video and other virtual celebrations in the coming weeks. We will also be working on plans to hold a senior prom this summer, if possible.
5th, 6th and 8th Grade
Over the coming weeks, our fifth-, sixth- and eighth-graders would’ve been wrapping up their final weeks in elementary and middle school, and partaking in traditional end-of-the-year activities and celebrations. We will be exploring ways to give them the proper school sendoffs when it is safe to do so. We had several transitional move-up events planned this spring for our fifth-, sixth- and eighth-graders. We will look to reschedule those as well.
Please know we understand how upsetting it might be that we are not able to provide definitive dates for any of these activities due to the fluid and uncertain nature of this situation. We will communicate any and all dates as soon as we are able.
Some days, like today, will be harder than others, but we will get through this together.
We are so proud of our students, our families and our teachers for embracing virtual learning. We know it’s not easy, but it’s a challenge we’ve successfully overcome in just a few short days. We know it’s not the same, but we hope the daily instruction and connection to your teachers and classmates continues to provide you with some sense of normalcy in this scary and uncertain time.
As always, we thank you for your continued support and cooperation. You embody what it means to be #nhproud.
Stay safe, North Hills! ❤
