Haliburton School of Art + Design
Full-time programs are underway with students distance learning in the Visual and Creative Arts Diploma, Integrated Design Diploma, and Drawing & Painting Certificate programs. Extensive material kits were shipped or picked up, enabling students to work with instructors who have developed engaging and creative virtual experiences.

Writing Workshop November 11, 18 & 25: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Ruth E. Walker at Writescape is co-presenting FIND & FIX, an online masterclass in editing your own work. Each two-hour session will help you identify flaws in your manuscript and explore practical ways to make effective changes. More than tips on typos and grammar, this workshop will focus on structural and stylistic issues we most often see in our clients' manuscripts: saggy middles, flat characters, and missed opportunities for effective description and plot development. My name is June Krisko of June Krisko Photography, and I have created a 2021 Calendar, Creatures of the Forest, in Affinity Publisher with photos from our property in Haliburton.
The 8" x 11" calendars were printed by Parker Pad and Printing. They retail for $20 at Castle Antiques Cafe and Rails End Gallery in Haliburton.
You can also request a calendar by email to [email protected] and shipping in Canada is $5.00 per calendar.

John Lennard will be having several new paintings in the annual Holiday Art Market at the Colborne Street Gallery in Fenelon Falls running from November 5 to January 3.

in our 2021 community programming. We are seeking proposals for
workshops for the following times:
-March Break - 3 hour workshops for children 8+. Artist fee $250
ยท -July/August - 1.5 hour drop-in workshop for families. Artist fee $125

I've received several pet portraits requests on paddles this month. Who would have known this would be desired...
What I love most about commissions is they are always different and usually something I would not have thought of doing.
I guess that is what makes it fun and sometimes challenging.
I can relate to this article about commissions... Enjoy!

Hello Arts Council Members,
We are pleased to announce that we are introducing a new project called Spotlight on the Arts which is an opportunity to promote our working artists in all mediums and arts organizations and businesses. Each month, we will profile a member on our social media sites sharing some information about them or their organization and displaying images of their art.
It is our privilege to work with all of you and we are pleased to be able to promote you and the work you do.

Halls Island Artist Residency hasn't let COVID-19 cancellations stop them from planning for summer 2021. We're hoping that our scheduled artists who were accepted for 2020 will be able to reschedule and make 2021 their year to reflect, be inspired and create on Koshlong Lake. There's no problem with social distancing on Halls Island -- it's been an ideal location for artists to work privately on their art. Stay tuned for more news early in the new year.www.hallsisland.ca

BarterPay -
At the inaugural meeting of the Board of Directors, a new member benefit was approved - the affinity partnership with BarterPay. Through this program, Chamber members can access and barter with over 4,000 firms across Canada on an organized platform.
This can be a savvy way to move excess inventory (space, service, product, etc.) in exchange for things you need - all without using cash. Here is a video on an artisan jeweller who bartered over $100,000 in product for things she needed for her business. The Standard rate is $99 to join, and $99 per month; The Chamber rate is $99 to join and $59 per month. The first 1,000 businesses (province-wide) to join will receive a $175 bill credit. Beyond the first 1,000 businesses, they will receive a $125 bill credit. You can find out more on this unique business to business program here.

- Acts a voice for arts, culture and heritage in Haliburton County. The Arts Council has representation on the Haliburton County Tourism Coalition and is involved in provincial and national arts organizations.
- Provides an information service to the public about the services, skills and products provided by members of the Arts Council. The Arts Council responds to requests for information by the public received by phone, mail or e-mail.
- Facilitates business-to-business connections among Arts Council members
- Collaborates with other organizations to promote the arts, culture and heritage.
If you are interested in donating to the Artists in the Schools program, donors receive a charitable tax receipt. Cheques can be made out to the Friends of the Arts in Haliburton Highlands and mailed to PO Box 931, Haliburton ON K0M 1S0. Alternatively, you may donate via PayPal.
