Administrator's Corner

Hello TJ,

I want to thank Ms. Rice, Ms. Thompson, and Mr. Poole for helping to create our "Virtual and Physically Distant Prom" this weekend! Thank you to all of the students and staff that provided videos of you dancing all dressed up. There is a video link below if you haven't already had a chance to watch!

A couple quick updates:

Attendance/Participation:
Continues to be very high. We currently seeing a 99% engagement rate between our students and teachers in regards to online learning. We are still running Chromebooks and Hotspots out to homes if they are needed. If you are having trouble connecting to your classroom because you need a Chromebook or a Hotspot, please let us know. We will help as many people as we can stay connected - keep up the great work!

Budget for 2021-2022:
If you've been paying attention to the news recently, there have been many rumors floating around regarding the budget for next year. I have been in meetings with Superintendent Cordova this past week and I have been told to not expect any drastic changes to how schools are financed for next year. Fortunately, because TJ has been growing in enrollment the past few years and we have been very responsible in how we spend our money, we are in good financial shape. We have nearly completed our hiring for next year and have added new staff to meet the demands of our growing student body.

Spring Gatherings:
As you know, due to the pandemic all large gatherings that were previously scheduled to take place are cancelled, but we plan to host them virtually. This means that we will have a Virtual Commencement and a Virtual Senior Awards Ceremony on or near their original dates. We are planning to have our Senior Check Out to be May 18th and May 19th where students can come to TJ and drive through the student-drop-off lane and turn in their books, chromebooks, uniforms, etc... and pick up their caps and gowns and whatever else they may have ordered from Jostens. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, our yearbook delivery is going to be slightly delayed so they may not be available until May 22nd. We will keep you posted on that and we are hopeful that they will be there for May 18th/19th.

Take care everyone - I hope you are all well,

¡Hola TJ,

Mike Christoff
Principal

Please congratulate the 2020 Prom King and Queen,  Ian Bolack  and  Jazz Wright ! Thanks to all who voted. Special thanks to  Jon Poole, Erin Thompson , and  Anne Rice  who drove around town to crown these two in person, and live-streamed it on Instagram so students could watch the evening unfold!

TJ "flocked" Principal Christoff last week. Students and staff wrote notes thanking him for his leadership during this craziness. And yes, there were flamingos! Thank you to Mr. Christoff and all of the staff for showing our students and community what it means to be a family at TJ. Thanks to all of the students who wrote notes as well!

The show must go on!
The daily Spartan Edition is STILL a thing, even with remote learning. The students are hard at work bringing the TJ community content daily from the comfort of their homes. Be sure to tune in daily to see the show. Click here for all archived shows.

Restaurants of the Week!

Over the past few years many local restaurants have been very supportive of TJ and the community.

Now it's our turn to give back by supporting them during this time of need.

Each week we will highlight three restaurants.

Please try your best to go out and support these businesses.

Thank you TJ!

AP Exam Updates
Student Communications and Exam Access
Students will need access to their email or College Board account to take the 2020 AP Exams. You can help ensure that your students have access in the following ways:

1.  Remind them to check the email address they used to create their account on myap.collegeboard.org; students should regularly check this email address for the most recent information about their AP Exams.

2.  Students should verify their College Board account at myap.collegeboard.org by clicking on their profile at the top right-hand corner of the page, and going to Account Settings. Students should scroll down to verify their information and confirm that their email address is the one to which they'd like to receive the e-ticket to take their AP Exams. If it's not the correct email, they can update it to an email they check regularly by clicking Update.

Yearbook News

COVID19 Yearbook Update:

The yearbook staff met the challenge of finishing the book right before spring break. It was a true team effort!

The book is currently being printed. We are hopeful that the production will not stop because of closures.

Distribution?  With the hopes that the book is printed, we are still determining the best solution to get the books to students. There will be a community announcement as soon as we know.

PTO News
National Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week begins on Monday, May 4 th .  The week is meant to be a celebration of teachers and staff who share their passion and skills to educate our children.  While our plans have shifted to virtual celebrations, we need your help now more than ever to show the entire TJ staff some love. The PTO is asking for students and parent to share kind works and expressions of gratitude in these ways...

1.       Create Thank You videos
  • We'll piece your clips together into one video to share with the TJ community on social media and in the newsletter.
  • Photos of you holding a sign of gratitude are welcome too - include the entire family!

Instructions for contributing a video...
  • Think of something you like or value about how TJ  teachers and staff treat you, respond to your needs, help you succeed, encourage you, make your day brighter, etc. It can be a general observation - you don't have to call out anyone in particular.
  • Record your video horizontally on your cell phone.
  • Make sure is no more than 10 seconds of content. Add 3 seconds to the beginning and end to help with editing. (Note: if you take it yourself with the camera forward, words and letters will be reversed.)
  • Submit your video clip no later than Friday, May 1 by 5pm.
  • Email your video or photo to:   gwendolynplue@gmail.com

  1. Write Thank You emails
  • Between May 4th-8th, let's flood everyone's inboxes with notes of appreciate for all they do - large and small - that make TJ the great school that it is.
  • Send emails to anyone at TJ who has made a difference in your life or made your experience at TJ a positive one.

The teachers and staff have gone above and beyond to make virtual learning work and adapt to these challenging times. There is no way to say  Thank You enough but please join us in sharing our appreciation for the work they do.

Hey GT Families!  We are here for you!
In an effort to provide GT students and their families with the resources and supports needed to begin/complete their Advanced Learning Plan (ALP), the TJHS GT Site Team has created a Google Classroom for each GT grade level.  The title and code for each grade level is listed below:
