MCS Annual Fund
Parent Giving Week November 16-22

This year's Annual Fund is next week! This will be one week of giving and we prayerfully ask all families to contribute to this fund that is vital to the operational budget for this school year. All contributions are invested immediately to benefit every child, every day, for His name's sake! Contributions fund technology, curriculum, professional development, scholarships and financial aid, and more.

Our goal is 100% participation from the community!

Be on the lookout for the flyer sent home on Friday and return the attached response card to your child's teacher next week.

Every student that returns the response card will earn a free dress day!

Every class that reaches 100% participation will earn a donut party!

Thank you for Investing for His Name's Sake!

MCS Celebrates Veterans Day Wednesday, Nov. 11

Thank you to all veterans who have served in the armed forces to ensure our freedom! We thank those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country and for us! And, we thank those currently in the military who continue to protect and serve this great nation!

Veterans Day Wednesday, Nov. 11

Veterans Day is one of our favorite celebrations at MCS. It is a time for us to teach our students about the reason for the holiday, feature patriotic ceremony, learn about periods of history, and honor our military veterans and active service personnel. This year we had to forgo many of the beloved traditions that involve having our veterans and grandparents as guests on campus. However, the foundational spirit of honoring this day continued on with a more intimate classroom approach. Each grade watched a slide presentation and videos selected especially for them. Teachers guided the students in discussions throughout. Each student wrote a letter to an active duty military person, and the letters will be given to Operation Interdependence to be included in their care packages.

Please enjoy this video of our ASB President, Bennett Yonkers, our ASB Vice President, Ceila Waltos, and our MCS Administrators paying their respects at the Pacific View Cemetery Garden of Valor.

Share2Wear

Our first Share2Wear of the year is upon us! Share2Wear days provide opportunities for our middle school students to practically and tangibly make a difference in our community, while getting to participate in a fun themed dress day! For our Share2Wear days, as long as a student "shares" the selected item, they get to "wearthe clothes related to the themed dress day!  Our "share" days will be on Tuesdays and our "wear" days will be on Wednesdays! Here's what this means for next week:
On Tuesday, 11/17, the students will bring in a cash donation of their choosing (minimum of $1) to "share". All money collected will go directly toward giving students in underprivileged neighborhoods the opportunity to celebrate their birthday. Project Giving Light shares the light and love of Jesus with these student and families by blessing them with a birthday celebration and gift, which they would not otherwise receive. It is our privilege to partner with PGL help these kids feel known and loved on their birthday! If students choose to be generous and give more than $1, that blessing would go a long way! We hope that 100% of students participate in sharing cash for these kids.

Students MUST "share" on Tuesday if they want to participate in the "wear" themed dress day on Wednesday. If they forget their share item on Tuesday, they have one last opportunity to bring it Wednesday morning if they want dress in the theme.
Then, On Wednesday, 11/18, the students who "shared" will dress in our selected theme for this month..."MIS-MATCH DAY" - The more you CLASH, the better the outfit!" That means that all PATTERNS, COLORS, and STYLES are fair game!!! You must be wearing at least 3 mismatched items to participate, which again includes mismatching patterns, colors, shoes, socks, etc. This includes accessories as well, so consider hats, scarves, hair accessories, etc. All school dress code guidelines apply.

We encourage 100% participation in our middle schools students so that we can do our part in caring for those in need in our community and beyond, and seek out ways to help those in need For His Name's Sake
Lost & Found

Thank you for labelling all your child's belongings - outerwear, backpacks, gym bags, lunches boxes and water bottles. Of particular importance is all MCS clothing items. If it is lost and labelled, we are able to make sure it gets back to your child. We are including a link to a useful label product that you can use for this purpose. Click Here.
Lunch Cart Drop Off

If you need to drop a lunch off to your student, there is a cart in the front entrance foyer. It must be clearly labelled with the student's name and grade/class. No matter what time your child has lunch recess, the daily drop off deadline for this is 11:30. At that time, the cart will be taken to the playground for the start of the lunch period.

Elementary Chapel

God says that "We are His people, the sheep of His pasture." Mrs. Celek shared about how a flock of sheep need care and guidance to stay healthy and safe. A rod and staff are the tools a shepherd uses to lead them to what is best, and to protect them from anything harmful. God is our Good Shepherd and His Bible is the tool that guides us.

Enjoy this video that gives a bird's eye view of sheep being lovingly guided to the best pastures by the shepherds.

Homeroom Competition

Our first Homeroom Competition this year helped us celebrate Thanksgiving a little early.  The name of the competition..."Pie, Get In My Belly!!!"  Each Homeroom had 3 contestants who had to eat a slice of pumpkin pie complete with whipped cream.  The caveat being...NO HANDS!!!

Our admin team of Mrs. Harrison, Mr. Joo, and Mr. Brown were troopers and competed on behalf of the staff!  It was messy and entertaining, and when the final whistle blew the winners were Mr. Jones for 8th grade, Ms. Phan for 7th grade, and Mrs. Liu for 6th grade.

The record for fastest eater was set by Mr. Joo, who demolished his pie.  He deserves a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for his performance!

Chapel Recap

This week's middle school chapel was an opportunity to recognize students with the Lion Pride Award. This award acknowledges students who have been showing character specific to the award criteria in each grade level.
- In 6th grade, the Lion Pride award is the Growing Disciple Award in recognition of students who show a desire to be a disciple of Jesus and to imitate Him through actions, words, and choices.
- In 7th grade, the Beatitudes Award recognizes students who show character based on the Beatitudes that Jesus speaks about in Matthew ch. 5.
- The Leadership Award in 8th grade is given in recognition of students who have chosen, like Joshua, to honor God through their words and actions, showing behavior that is strong and courageous, bold in faith, and consistent in character.
Every student nominated for this award must be unanimously agreed upon by the entire middle school staff before receiving this award, thus making it a high honor to be selected.
