3/27, 10 AM EDT: Paul & Mary – Muscle & Joint Actions in Asana practice
Paul Emerson, Ph.D. (Biomedical emphasis): Paul began practicing hatha yoga in 1969. In 1975 he attended one of Pandit Arya's (Swami Veda) lectures on Superconscious Meditation and was initiated in the tradition that same year. He has been teaching at The Meditation Center since 1976 and is certified through the Rockford school of yoga (Behram Guard, a disciple of Swami Rama and student of BKS Iyengar). He is a bioengineer with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering holds many patents and has written a number of articles for medical journals.

Mary Bowman-Cline, CMA, ERYT-500, YACEP: Mary has been teaching Hatha Yoga for 35 years, the last 25 at the Meditation Center. She applies knowledge from years as a Rehabilitative Massage Therapist into her classes and is currently working as a Medical Assistant in a busy Clinic where she often uses Yoga relaxation and breathing with patients while taking their vital signs, a mini lesson in bio-feedback

Join Paul and Mary at the Meditation Center to explore the biomechanics of asanas from an anatomical perspective. You will learn the names of bones, joint types, their actions and how muscles attach to create movement in asanas and Joints and Glands
exercises. This class will also get you up and moving through a variety of Joints and Glands exercises, and a few Asanas, reciting the joint movements out loud as they happen for a better understanding and to improve mental retention.
3/28, 10 AM EDT: Savitri Jugdeo – Advancing one’s Personal Meditation practice

Savitri Judeo, BA, E-RYT 500 and YACEP: Savitri has been guided on the spiritual path by Shri Swami Rama and Shri Swami Veda for 40 years, and continues to serve the Tradition in whatever way she can. She was founder, director and principal teacher of the Yoga Meditation Centre of Regina, Canada, for over 25 years. A mantra initiator, she currently spends much of her time in India at Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun and at the 2 Ashrams in Rishikesh, where she continues to teach and guide students.

The systematic steps of meditation in the Himalayan Tradition include basic preparations, relaxation, breath refinement, and diksha mantra. Savitri will focus on these steps to demonstrate how advancing in one’s meditation hinges on the continuous awareness of one’s true Self through the practices of the simple ‘so-ham’ breath and the introduction of the diksha mantra. This will awaken the Atma Shakti leading to the final re-cognizing of “That who I am - ‘Tat Tvam Asi”.

Savitri will address these topics: Shavasana practices, Breath awareness and Sushumna, Mantra and Purashcharana, Chakras, and Sri Vidya meditations.
3/31, 7 PM EDT: Rabindra Sahu – A Personal Philosophy of Life

Rabindra Sahu: is a teacher in the Himalayan Yoga Tradition, based at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG) ashram, Rishikesh. Introduced to the Indian philosophy at an early age, Rabindra has been teaching at SRSG and traveling within India and overseas for outreach programs for many years. He is deeply devoted to study of ancient scriptures and believes in experiential understanding.

Each of us is drawn to different gateways to begin our personal path toward awakening a deeper experience of ourselves. We need to find our own ways to understand and develop a personal philosophy: a philosophy that truly makes us feel inspired, awakened, connected and is meant especially for us.

In this session, Rabindra will help us explore:

  • The benefits of a having a personal philosophy in one’s life
  • A roadmap for understanding our uniqueness and how to bring that forward to reveal a peaceful and joyful life
  • The bridges that bring us from a limited personal understanding to a greater awareness of our true SELF.
4/02, 7 PM EDT: Daniel Hertz & Nikki Strong – Biofeedback and Beyond

Daniel Hertz, MS, BCB, E-RYT 500: Daniel has been on the faculty of The Meditation Center in Minneapolis since 1995 and has been offering individual Biofeedback sessions since 2007. 100% of the royalties from his new book, EVERYTHING IS A LITTLE BIT ALRIGHT, are donated to The Meditation Center. It is available world-wide on Amazon in Kindle and paperback.

Nikki Strong, PhD: Nikki has served on the teaching faculty at The Meditation Center in Minneapolis and with Minneapolis Community Education for over a decade, teaching Hatha Yoga, Beginning Meditation, Subtle Body practices, Pranayama, and various yoga lifestyle topics: proper diet, sitting posture, and using biofeedback. Nikki also has expertise and a background in Traditional Chinese Medicine and martial arts, and research and teaching experience in the fields of geology, geophysics, and civil engineering.
Biofeedback can increase self-awareness and support the process of learning self-regulation. It is well-recognized as a powerful, non-invasive, and relatively simple way to measure subtle changes in the emotional and physiological state. Sensors can be attached to the skin to monitor respiration, heart rate, skin temperature, muscle tension, and more. The analysis of Heart Rate Variability (HRV), or heart rhythms, and Resonant Frequency Breathing allow us to find the ideal breathing type and rate which will most quickly balance your autonomic nervous system.

Daniel and Nikki will demonstrate how to use the biofeedback equipment, provide hands-on exercises that can be practiced at home and discuss the keys to learning self-regulation. They recommend that each participant add the Breathe2Relax free app onto their mobile phone and purchase ($14US) the following 2 items, so you can follow along with the at home biofeedback experiments.

Cost of the Virtual Workshop

To help sustain the Ashram during this difficult time, all the proceeds from this workshop will be donated to SRSG. We are recommending a donation of US$250.00 for those that live in High-Income Countries, US$190.00 for those in Middle-Income Countries, and US$125.00 for those in Low-Income Countries. If you cannot attend, an option of sponsoring a low-income student is provided. Of course, any additional donations will be appreciated. The registration site is on Constant Contact and will allow you to pay using your credit card or your PayPal account.
