The world’s economies and markets have shifted dramatically due to the coronavirus pandemic. Has market volatility abated or is the bottom yet to come? Hear how the future shapes up from Kurt Reiman, BlackRock’s Senior Strategist for North America, and Frances Donald, Chief Economist and Head of Macro Strategy at Manulife Investment Management.

Key issues are how policy makers will work to support economic recovery and which industries and asset classes might fare best in this environment. Get an update on their respective forecasts from January 2020 given shifts in the economy due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Frances Donald
Managing Director, Global Chief Economist & Global Head of Macroeconomic Strategy, Manulife Investment Management

Frances Donald is Managing Director, Global Chief Economist & Global Head of Macroeconomic Strategy for Manulife Investment Management. In her role, Frances forecasts global macroeconomic and financial trends, analyzes the economy and capital markets for potential opportunities and risks, and serves as a thought leader both within the firm and externally . As a senior member of the asset allocation team, she coordinates global macro research, assists in the team’s return forecasts, and contributes to portfolio positioning views. Prior to joining Manulife, Frances worked as a financial economist for Scotiabank in Toronto, and before that as a global macro analyst for Pavilion Global Markets in Montreal. Earlier in her career, she held various positions at Deloitte, Roubini Global Economics, and Bank of Canada. Frances earned a B.A. (Honours) in Economics from Queen’s University and a Master’s in Economics from New York University. She’s a frequent public speaker and regularly appears in international media, including Bloomberg and CNBC. Kurt Reiman
Managing Director, BlackRock Asset Management

Kurt Reiman, Managing Director, is a member of the BlackRock Investment Institute (BII) and Senior Strategist for North America. In this role, Kurt contributes to the formation of BII's tactical investment views and delivers the team's macroeconomic and financial market outlook to investment professionals and the media throughout the U.S. and Canada. Kurt joined BlackRock in 2013 as a Global Investment Strategist based in New York within the firm's Multi-Asset Strategies group, bringing with him over 15 years of experience in investment research and strategy. In 2016, Kurt was appointed as the Chief Investment Strategist for Canada, based in Toronto. He generated investment insights on Canada's financial markets and communicated them to clients, BlackRock's investors and client-facing professionals. He also appeared regularly in the financial news media, including BNN Bloomberg, the Financial Post and the Globe and Mail. Prior to joining BlackRock, Kurt was the Head of Thematic Research at UBS Wealth Management in New York and Zurich. Kurt began his career at the G7 Group in Washington, DC and Reuters in Stamford, CT. Mr. Reiman earned his B.S. degree in Business and Economics from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, and his M.S. degree in International Relations with a concentration in International Economics from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.

Divya Steinwall
Director, BlackRock Asset Management

Divya Steinwall, Director, is the Head of Sales Enablement and Business Management for iShares Canada. She is responsible for leveraging our digital wealth platform and tools to enhance engagements with our clients, as well as expanding connectivity with our strategic partners to empower our retail distribution strategy and drive the effective operation of the sales business. Ms. Steinwall first joined BlackRock in 2013 as part of the Fund Administration team overseeing the daily operations relating to the Canada group of funds and having local responsibility for the financial reporting process, before moving into her current role in 2014. Prior to joining BlackRock, Ms. Steinwall spent 15 years at State Street Funds Services in both Portfolio Accounting and Fund Administration roles. Ms. Steinwall also chairs the Canadian chapter of the Women's Initiative Network. In 2016 she was honored as a "Champion of Change" by Women in Capital Markets in recognition for her leadership to push the boundaries for the advancement of women in Corporate Canada's leadership teams and boardrooms. She sits on the Executive Committee for the Toronto Chapter of 100 Women in Finance and is on the Board for the Canadian chapter of Women in ETFs. Ms. Steinwall earned her Bachelor of Commerce (Honors), Specialist in Management & Economics degree from the University of Toronto. She has completed the Canadian Securities Course as well as the Claritas Investment Certificate Program offered by the CFA Institute. Ms. Steinwall serves on the Board of Directors for both the Aisling Discoveries Child and Family Foundation and Emajjin Children's Foundation.
