Superintendent Cheryl Jordan announces MUSD's IPL plan with April 1 start date |
"We are ready to launch MUSD EducatEveryWhere version 3.0 on Thursday, April 1," announced Superintendent Cheryl Jordan in her COVID-19 Data & Actions Update.
The plan calls for the expansion of In-Person Learning to include TK-6 and 9th grade students beginning Thursday, April 1 in a Safety First learning environment, targeting those students identified for tiered support while offering IPL opportunity to all students in these designated grades.
The IPL plan will adhere to the Santa Clara County Public Health Department and CA Safe Schools safety parameters. Daily health screenings, COVID-19 testing, face coverings, social distancing markers, desk shields and other safety requirements will be in place for students who are on campus. In addition, MUSD will continue to expand its In-Person Learning Targeted Support for students in all grade levels.
Jordan explained that principals and site leadership teams will host virtual Town Halls for parents/caregivers to share IPL plans specific to their school sites and surveys will be distributed to parents asking them to choose between having their student participate in IPL or remain in 100 percent Distance Learning for the rest of the Spring 2021 semester. The frequency of In-Person Learning for students, which will include a portion of Distance Learning, will depend on your responses to the survey, as well as capacity limitations in our classrooms.
Additionally, Superintendent Jordan shared her COVID-19 Data & Actions Update with the Board and community, detailing the safety measures in place at all school sites as well as the up-to-date COVID-19 Dashboard and staff testing statistics posted on MUSD's Coronavirus page.

Director's Report: CDC programs provide essential childcare to vulnerable families |
|
Child Development Centers Director Gerardo Lopez brought along a trio of passionate team members who shared their experiences over the last year of providing in-person and distance learning for MUSD’s most vulnerable families.
“In about two months, we will celebrate one year of being open for in-person childcare over at Rose and Sinnott,” said Lopez, who praised his CDC team for their dedication and perseverance before introducing Rose CDC teacher Marisol Monarrez, site supervisor Lorena Wright and Sunnyhills CDC teacher Alyssa Casilla.
“I feel privileged to be part of our Rose CDC staff,” Monarrez said. “We are serving up to 14 in-person, preschool students. My experience has been a positive one because I see how our families, and majority are low-income families, are being supported during these hard times.”
Monarrez explained that the pre-schoolers are all children of Essential Workers who would otherwise have no source of childcare without the CDC program. Social distancing protocols aligned with federal, state and county guidelines have kept the program thriving during the pandemic.
Wright supervises two school-aged programs, one at each Rose and Sinnott elementary schools, that serves up to 42 students in grades K-6. The CDC partners with the HeadStart Program to provide this service.
“Our experience has been positive. Our teachers have the passion,” said Wright, noting an emphasis on social-emotional development. “The only challenge is not being able to take care of more families.”
Casilla, along with her colleagues, teaches distance learning at Sunnyhills CDC that includes 56 preschool students in four sessions.
“We have a great team who supports each other,” Casilla said. “The students are excited to start class and want to meet even longer.”

Board approves 2020-21 Second Interim Report and positive financial certification |

Wendy Zhang, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, along with her Business Services Team, led a presentation on 2020-21 Second Interim Report, which was unanimously approved by the Board. A positive certification will be submitted to the Santa Clara County Office of Education.
The purpose of the Second Interim Report is to advise Administrators, the Board, the public, and other interested agencies of the District’s current General Fund financial status. The District is required to notify the County Office of Education and the State Department of Education whether or not it will be able to meet its financial obligations.
The Second Interim Report also provides a comparison of the latest anticipated revenues and expenditures to the Board approved operating budget.
