The Forest City Community School District is committed to
providing each student the opportunity for a 21st century education
|

Hello Forest City School District families:
You've likely seen news headlines across Iowa and the country as schools and colleges are working through plans to address the continuing health crisis.
The answers to the questions: Are schools going to open in the fall? What does it look like if they do? Will they stay open? are ones that we and all schools across the state are doing our best to prepare for. As we look toward the fall, keeping students and staff safe while educating our students to the best of our ability remain our top priorities.
Because this situation is so fluid, school districts in Iowa were asked to submit a "Return to Learn" plan to the state by July 1. As part of this plan, districts were asked to prepare for online learning (our term in Forest City is Flex Learning), traditional learning (face-to-face learning on-site), and hybrid learning (a combination of both).
While there’s no debating that the traditional model is preferred, our plan will include the flexibility to move between any of these above-mentioned models. Guidance issued by the state, federal education agencies, and public health will guide us in the direction we head. One such guidance example is what is in place/required for social distancing.
Regardless of what it looks like, we remain committed to ensuring the same educational opportunities for each and every one of our students.
In July, we will be back in touch with more information about these models, what the start of our school year looks like, and will provide our normal information about how to register and sign up for back-to-school conferences.
Like you, we have missed the vibrancy that our students and families bring to our schools and community. We are all adjusting to this ever-changing situation and the new reality. Again, we will continue to share information, and thank you for your partnership and patience. We are in this together.

12th Grade
The State of Iowa requires all students entering 12th grade and born after September 15, 1999, to have a Meningococcal vaccine
before
the start of school on August 17 or have previously had the vaccine on or after their 16th birthday.
All students entering 12th grade must have proof of having the Meningococcal vaccine before school starts, unless the student has a Certificate of Immunization Exemption.
7th Grade
The State of Iowa requires all students entering 7th grade and born after September 15, 2004, to have both a Meningococcal vaccine and a Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertusis/whooping cough) booster before the start of school.
The Tdap requirement has been in place since the 2013/2014 school year and requires a dose of Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Acellular Pertussis containing vaccine for students entering 7th grade, regardless of the interval since the last Tetanus/Diphtheria containing vaccine.
There will be no grace or extension period. If the student has not completed the requirement they will not be allowed to attend school or participate in any school related activities, including sports.
Thank you for your time and attention to this requirement!

NIACC Regional Education Center
|
|
A new NIACC Regional Education Center is coming to North Iowa! In fact, it will be located right here in Forest City in the Nerem Industrial Park. The Nerem Industrial Park is located just to the west of CDI near Winnebago and 3M.
The new center is projected to open for classes in the fall of 2021 and is the result of NIACC partnering with four area districts: Forest City, GHV, Lake Mills, and North Iowa. This initiative, to build up to three regional centers to support the area’s workforce issues, is a major part of NIACC's recent bond referendum.
Students in these four districts will be able to take advantage of education and training in four "Career Academies" and they are all areas where there's a shortage of workers in North Iowa and around the country. The four areas are: Information Technology, Construction, Advanced Manufacturing, and Health.
NIACC instructors, and area teachers, will provide high-quality career technical education and the regional center will have similar training equipment as the main NIACC campus.
NIACC will provide funding, oversee construction of the center, and provide educational programs and academic advising for students. The districts will support the educational program and operational costs of the building.
This regional center, in addition to the partnership with Waldorf University, provides Forest City students with another amazing opportunity to explore the direction they may want to go after high school.

Congratulations Class of 2020
|
|
The rain held out just long enough to wish the Class of 2020 a fond farewell on Saturday, June 20. For every level of student, it was a crazy ending to the school year; however, we were so thankful that we could give this deserving class a graduation ceremony. Best wishes!!!
