Update on Summer Program 2020
Good afternoon,
On Monday, we were happy to learn that the state of MA released guidelines for Summer Programs. Since then, we have been processing the health and safety requirements and working tirelessly to finalize a plan for our 2020 Summer Program.

Due to the Department of Health regulations, we need to delay the opening of our summer program by 9 days. The new start date will be Monday, July 6, 2020. Also, to avoid large gatherings, we will need to cancel our member orientation that was set to take place on Saturday, June 20 th .
Here are the adjustments we will have to make to our Summer Program due to the Covid-19 outbreak:
  • The Extended Program will be 7:30-5:30, Monday through Friday.
  • The Basic Program will be 9:30-3:30, Monday through Friday.
  • Groups will consist of the same children and staff during the 10-hour day.
  • The kitchen will not be serving any hot lunches.
  • The pool will be open!
  • There will be signage placed around the park to remind members to social distance.
  • Additional staff will be hired to ensure the facility and equipment is cleaned and sanitized throughout the day.
  • Multiple hand washing stations will be located throughout the park.

In working with the Department of Health, we have come up with a plan to have our staff actively monitor children throughout the day for symptoms of any kind, including fever, cough, shortness of breath, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
  • All sick individuals are required to stay home and all individuals will be screened prior to admittance into the program. Temperatures will be taken and a series of questions will be asked. Anyone with a temperature of 100.0 or above or shows any other signs of illness will not be permitted to enter the program.
  • Any visitor entering the property should wear a facial covering.
  • If a child exhibits signs of illness, they will be separated from the group and brought to a designated place of isolation where they will wait until they can be picked up. The family should consult their healthcare provider to determine if any testing or other medical care is indicated.
  • If a staff member becomes symptomatic while at work, the staff member will cease child care duties immediately and will leave the program. The employee should consult their healthcare provider to determine if any testing or other medical care is indicated.
  • If a child or a staff has been exposed to COVID-19, regardless of whether the individual has symptoms or not, the individual will not be permitted to enter the program space and must self-quarantine for 14 days after the last contact with the person who is sick.
  • If a child or a staff tests positive or their doctor says they have confirmed or probably COVID-19, they must stay home for a minimum of 10 days from the 1st day of symptoms appearing and be fever-free for 72 hours without fever reducing mediations and experience significant improvements in symptoms to COVID-19.

We are very familiar with these guidelines as we were approved on March 23 rd to operate an Emergency Day Care Program for the children of essential workers. In this program, we screen the members before they are allowed to enter the program. We increased our cleaning and sanitation, increased the number of times the members are required to wash their hands and have separated the members into smaller groups with the same staff. Due to the routines that have been in place for the past 12 weeks, we are comfortable that we can offer a safe place for our members to attend as well as provide a safe place for our employees to work.

All these new requirements do not come without added costs. This is why the summer program fees will remain the same of $900 for the Extended Program and $650 for the Basic Program. Due to these unprecedented times, we hope you understand and we thank you for your patience. If you have questions, please call our office at 508-883-6363.

Thank you,
BVBGC Staff
