Dear SMCS Families,

It is hard to believe that we are almost halfway through November and Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away. Thank you for your continued support as we navigate the pandemic. I want to send a special thank you to Nurse Diaz for doing an incredible job and working tirelessly to keep our school safe and open. I really appreciate her hard work at communicating with families who have questions or concerns.

Please know that the safety of students and staff continues to be our top priority along with keeping the school open for on-campus instruction. We need everyone's help to do this. We are all exhausted with these precautions and are aching to return to normalcy, but I ask that you remember the active role each of you plays in ensuring the continuation of on-campus instruction. Sustaining a safe environment for our school depends on our commitment to one another.

For those of you who are planning to travel or visit with extended family and friends during Thanksgiving, please consider the community transmission rates in the area where you will be and the risk of unknowingly transmitting this disease.  Thank you for your continued effort and sacrifice in the collective interest of keeping our community members safe and our campus open.
Have a safe weekend!

Blessings,
Dr. Kathleen Cox

Thank you for your help with this as it allows us to keep track of absences during the pandemic.

St. Michael Catholic School Annual Fund

Thank you to those families who have already generously donated to the Annual Fund! Every gift of any amount is greatly valued and appreciated.  Remember that all current family gifts and pledges count towards overall family participation and individual grade level participation.  This year's theme, Anchored in Faith, reminds us that our Catholic Faith is central and at the core of the St. Michael experience.  A gift to the Annual Fund is a symbol of our commitment to the Mission of St. Michael Catholic School.

To learn more about the Annual Fund or to make a gift, please visit the Annual Fund Website. Annual Fund questions may be directed to Director of Development Laura Dols, at [email protected].

How does the Annual Fund help teachers?
Holly Bennett, Language Arts, 7th/8th Grade
7th and 8th Grade Language Arts Teacher, Holly Bennett, shared about her experience at St. Michael, "I have been blessed with two incredible professional development opportunities. In the summer of 2018, I was able to be part of the "Project Zero" program at Harvard where I attended classes that shifted my way of thinking about my own teaching. I came home with several methods and ideas that I was immediately able to use in my classroom. In the summer of 2019, I attended the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) conference in Philadelphia. Here, I got a ton of ideas regarding implementing technology in my class. Because of this conference, I was better prepared for the sudden shift to distance learning! In addition, As an RLA teacher, I have been blessed to be able to provide my students with their own copies of the novels we study. This is important and beneficial to the students because they can take notes in the book as they read, which is a valuable reading skill. The students always get excited when they find out that the books they are given are THEIRS to keep! Every year, I am overwhelmed by the generosity shown during the Annual Fund, especially by the Middle School parents! Even though they may only have a few years left at our school, they continue to be leaders in donations and great examples of leaving a meaningful legacy."

Tiger Track
Give Back

Tiger Track to Give Back is our way of giving back to our community while staying safe!  The PLUS Social committee hopes you are enjoying visiting local businesses who have supported St. Michael!  Tiger Track Give Back flyers were distributed in folders two weeks ago. As you consider your shopping needs, or when deciding on a local restaurant for dine-in or take out, we invite you to visit the businesses on our Tiger Track as St. Michael's way of saying thank you!

Families who shop 5 or more of these businesses will earn a free dress pass for your students. At checkout, ask for a signature on your Tiger Track. Please turn in the flyer to your homeroom teacher by Wednesday, December 2nd. Flyers are applicable to the entire family. Help thank these local businesses for supporting SMCS while showing our Tiger Pride by posting your photos on social media and tag St. Michael Catholic School and the local business! #SMCSSUPPORTS

Carpool Reminders
  • Please make sure students have their masks on before you pull into the parking lot for morning carpool.
  • Please do not block the alley between Del Monte and Chevy Chase during carpool.
  • Please follow all instructions given by the traffic officers.

Adopt-A-Family

Christmas is quickly approaching and it is time again to participate in the Adopt-A-Family program.

St. Michael parishioners can experience a truly unique Christmas season by adopting a child and their family that are supported by participating organizations that look to help families that do not have the resources for gifts to place under their Christmas tree.

Once the families are matched, St. Michael families will provide a gift for the student limited to $50, a food basket, and HEB gift card.

The pandemic has made 2020 a particularly difficult year for many families.  Let us all do our part to help lift their burden a little for Christmas.

Please contact Mike Stuchly at (713) 302-7517 or email [email protected] no later than November 29, 2020 if your family wishes to adopt a family this Christmas season.
