Call to Artists -
Fertile Ground Exhibit
The Mezzanine Gallery at the Norman Williams Public Library invites local artists to include their work in our upcoming exhibit, "Fertile Ground: a Spring Group Art Exhibit" which will run May 15 through June 30.
To participate, please bring in one or two ready-to-hang pieces on May 14 or 15 during library hours. Two works will be hung if space allows, but please prioritize your first and second choices in case only one can be hung. There is a $5 entrance fee.
A reception will be held in the Mezzanine Gallery on Friday, May 18, 4:00-5:30 pm.

This is the first English translation of the
Odyssey by a woman.
As Wilson concludes an introductory note, "The Odyssey is a very ancient and very foreign text, although its long-standing prominence in Anglo-American...culture may mask its strangeness. Homer's concerns-with loyalty, families, migrants, consumerism, violence, war, poverty, identity, rhetoric, and lies-are in many ways deeply familiar, but we see them here in unfamiliar guises. The poem is concerned, above all, with the duties and dangers involved in welcoming foreigners into one's home."
It's a deeply thoughtful and wonderfully accessible rendering.
** While the Wilson translation will be discussed, you may read any translation of the Odyssey
that you want or have. Line numbers should correlate, so the Edith Wilson version is not essential.

Breastfeeding Support Group
Are you breastfeeding? Pregnant and plan to breastfeed? Meet monthly to discuss any breastfeeding related issues you may have or to just share/swap stories with other breastfeeding moms.
The group is led by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) who can help you through any stage of your breastfeeding journey (pregnancy through weaning).
Cost is totally free and older kids are welcome. Meetings are held in the Children's section of the library.

Impressions of New England in Oils
Paintings of Lynn VanNatta
My paintings are expressive, full of life and richness of lush color. My aim is to
capture the truth of my subjects in paint. I strive to expressively, capture light,
shadows, color and content. My painting technique is very loose and
painterly, especially in my Plein Air paintings. I also paint frequently in my studio,
where I work on larger more complex pieces, some of which are commissions.
Lynn Van Natta's paintings will be featured in the Mezzanine Gallery at NWPL April 1 - May 15.
