Light Up the Season of Giving –
Food and Book Drives
Share good fortune and help all members of our community partake in the joy of the season by participating in donation drives. The City of Menlo Park has partnered with local nonprofits to collect donations of food and books for children and families in need.

Food Donation Drive:
Community members are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items to benefit local families with the help of local nonprofit organization, Samaritan House. Donated food items must be non-perishable, unexpired food items in their original, unopened retail packaging. Examples of needed food items include pastas, grains, rice, macaroni, peanut butter, instant potatoes, breakfast cereals, canned fruits and vegetables, and similar nutritious food items. Drop off your donated food items at the Main Library, 800 Alma Street during regular operating hours.

Children’s Book Drive:
Give the gift of reading and literacy. Studies have shown that children who have plentiful access to books in the home in early life leads directly to improved literacy achievement later in life. Donate new and gently-used children and teens books to benefit young people through the Children's Book Project. Donations can be dropped off in the lobby of the Main Library, 800 Alma St. Learn more

Bay Area Health Officers Urge Boosters
to Protect Against Omicron Variant
Public health agencies across the Bay Area urge everyone eligible to get vaccinated and, if eligible, get a booster shot right away to protect against the rapidly spreading Omicron variant.

Widely available via appointment or drop-in sites, boosters maintain the power of vaccines to strongly protect against severe illness and death from COVID-19. Everyone should get one when eligible, but particularly those over 50 or those with significant underlying health conditions.

To find a booster shot appointment or drop-in booster location in San Mateo County, please go to smchealth.org/vaccinecalendar or to MyTurn.

Donate to Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. for an Immediate Impact on Seniors in Our Community
Peninsula Volunteers, Inc.’s vital services for seniors are more critical now than ever. The pandemic’s disproportionate impact on older adults has led to more widespread loneliness, isolation and health vulnerabilities. Hunger has more than tripled in Bay Area counties, jeopardizing the health and well-being of older adults. Now nearly 1 in six seniors is facing hunger risk and cannot cover the cost of basic needs.

You may ask “how can I help local seniors like Raymond right now”?
Join PVI as they continue strengthening the senior community by helping them provide high-quality programs that keep your loved ones and neighbors fed, engaged, and living independently. Your gift of any size* made securely online at penvol.org/donate will change the lives of seniors now.
