On Friday, June 5 MUSM students on all three campuses organized an event to join together with health care providers and medical students across the nation to show their commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity.
Dr. Jean Sumner, Dean of Mercer University School of Medicine, joined Dr. Telisa Spikes and her brother, NFL-legend Takeo Spikes, on his "Behind the Mask" podcast to discuss the color of COVID-19, rural areas, racial disparities and more.
STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES
DISC Project Opportunity:
Tybee Island Farmers Market Health Screenings
The Tybee Island Farmers' Market allows MUSM student volunteers to perform health screenings on Monday afternoons. Chandler Brandenburg, Tanner Fincher and Christie Sapp Savas have coordinated volunteers, supplies and timing of these screenings for the past year and a half, and even formalized the volunteer opportunity into a DISC project. As they move into third year, the goal is for the primary project responsibilities to transition to one or more second year students. They plan to be involved as much as their rotation schedules allow, but are also excited for others to have the opportunity to become active in this awesome DISC project!

If you’re interested in this position, email Christie Sapp Savas with a few short sentences about why you'd like to become involved. This position will also require you to attend the market all afternoon on Monday, June 22 or Monday, June 29 in order to transition responsibilities.
Publication Opportunity with AAMC for Collaborative Student Volunteer and Service Projects
The AAMC iCollaborative is actively seeking submissions of student volunteer projects done in collaboration with health systems and medical schools. If you organized or coordinated any volunteer or service efforts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, please visit the AAMC iCollaborative website to review qualifications and instructions for submission. The link also provides free access to a collection of projects from medical schools throughout the AAMC network for review.
Join Dr. Sumner for a Town Hall on Race Relations
This event will be held on Thursday, June 11 at 12:00 pm via Zoom and will be an opportunity to discuss your issues and concerns. Check your email to RSVP.
Avoid a Hold on Your Class Registration
A registration hold is placed on all MU students requiring them to sign a Student Statement of Responsibility each semester. Sign your statement today to avoid registration delays.
